Caribou Gear

Sorry to my Subaru brethren

But I made the jump yesterday. I haven't abandoned my Forester, it's still a great vehicle, but I started looking for a truck last year. Couldn't pass up this '08 Tundra with 122k for $11.5k so I brought it home.
Nice truck and bonus …. it isn’t a Subaru. :D

They aren’t too bad to work on. What needs done?
Brakes, possibly battery although trickle charging it may have brought it back to life, 4wd actuator either needs corrosion cleaned out or to be replaced completely, passenger tailight assembly is cracked, and it has a pending evap code that I may have to diagnose before I get it inspected. Also has a few dents on the driver side and the tailgate but I'm not worried about addressing those.

I love my tundra. I don’t think I could ever go back to a different brand 1/2 ton truck. That’s a killer deal for that mileage.

Well this deal is looking better every day. The battery has been great since I put it on the trickle charger. The evap code hasn't come back since I switched the gas cap (although the monitor still hasn't set so I'm not out of the woods on that yet). And the 4wd started working on Wednesday. I kept trying to engage it on my commute each day and Wednesday night on the way home from church it finally worked. Driving it around must have loosened the crud up preventing the actuator from moving. I got it out today on some dirt to make sure everything worked right and it did.

I did the oil change today and I've ordered brakes and the taillight housing and then I should be able to get it inspected next week. Very happy with the truck so far. It probably needs a fuel pump at some point, it seems the anti-siphon valve has failed as it takes a long time to start if it's been sitting a while, especially on a hill.

Cleaning out all the tools and stuff from the Subaru today and starting the light bar and pod light removal so I can return it to a spec my wife approves of for her to drive.

Awesome truck! Other than standard maintenance, not much really needs done to them.
Press and release the traction control button three times. On the third press,,hold it in for five seconds and it will fully disable all forms of TC&VSC sending 100% power to the wheels. Obviously this is for fun and not recommended on wet surfaces.
If you end up needing to remove the hub locknut, I've attached a pic of the best non oem socket that won't sheer the pins off inside the nut.
Congratulations on a quality, American made truck!

What year do you have? If I press the traction control button once, it turns traction control off but the "auto lsd" on, if I hold if for 3 seconds it also disables VSC, but I can't get it to disable the "auto lsd". Edit: nevermind, I finally got it. I have to press and hold the tc button for 3 seconds twice

I was wondering if your evap code was the gas cap. Glad that was it.

You are supposed to engage 4wd every month to keep stuff moving. Every once in a while I find 4Lo a little sticky. Usually the end of summer after not using it much.

There is a rear diff breather relocate hack on the Tundras forum. You can run a hose up into the taillight area to reduce the chance of getting g water in the rear diff. Takes $20 in parts and a half a beer to do it.

Getting ready to order new shocks and bump stops for mine.

Thanks, I just found how to do it. And yeah, gas cap is a common one. I'm still suspect of the vent solenoid being stuck open but I won't worry with it unless the code comes back.

sweet ride, but ditch those lame running boards.

Mine eats up brake rotors like they're oreos. And the secondary air system is failing, but they do make a delete kit if you want to go that route. https://hewitt-tech.com/product/sec...FaTPmRMHy2lgFTaGnnqCB7WJ1YtakS-saAr1PEALw_wcB
Running boards are low on my list of stuff to do right now. I have pads and rotors for all 4 wheels on the way, system needs to be bled really badly too. Thankfully no secondary air problems for me so far, I'll probably delete if it pops up.
