You should have been here this morning, we had 35 Mallards before 8:30! My son and I left for our Stuttgart, AR Hunt Wednesday morning and when we stopped in Little Rock for Lunch the sleet was Blowing sideways and starting to cause driving problem, cars were hitting the ditches and other fun stuff to keep one amused on a drive to duck camp. When we arrived in Stuttgart we stopped at Mack's Prairie Wings to buy our License and other last minute stuff. Even Macks was closing early because of the weather. BTW, Neat store! As we drove up the road to the Lodge we drove through a rice field...thousands and thousands of Greenheads were getting up in front of the truck. It really is a sight to behold! My son was beside himself!
We get to the Lodge and meet our Host and the Guides and the cook, who shows us to our rooms, Travis (son) thought he was a stud, he had his own room and everything! We all gather at the main part of the Lodge for cocktails and are served some kind of Greek cuisine, I was real proud of Travis, he did'nt spit any of it out! The morning of the first hunt I am awakened by the staff with a knock on the door and a cup of coffee, now this is hunting! After breakfast we walk to the boathouse and break Ice to the blind, everything is froze!!!!!!!!! We saw thousands of ducks, but they flew over us and looked for open water. The guides tried to keep a place open, but it just would not work. We came back to the Lodge for Gumbo and BBQ pork sandwiches. We went back to Mack's PW to shop and they had a rack of used or traded guns that Travis and I looked through, I bought Travis a Knight Muzzleloader w/scope and sling for $129.00, Merry Christmas Travis!
That day our Host came down with the Puke and Sh*ts, then the guides came down with it the next day after our second day of watching decoys frozen in place in the Greentree area. On Friday I helped drive our host back to Shreveport and went to our family Christmas with my sister....then as we were snuggled tight in our beds with visions of ol' St. Nick firmly in our heads, What do I hear? It's my stomach and I'm about to Sh*t!! Man, the Boy and I were so sick with whatever everyone had that we did not even get out of bed until the 26th of Dec.!!!! We have been invited back for next year and I'm sure it can only go up hill from now on.
