Snowy mountains, Montana youth hunt.

[size=14pt]Granddaughter and I have been shooting all summer with the rifle she uses for deer hunting. Full-sized deer target 150 yards.
CZ youth stock 7.69x39 Redfield scope custom ( Short) sticks.
We shot 100 shells over the summer.
Today she shot one more...

188 yards, in the pocket through the heart and out the offside shoulder. It did not take a step, DRT!
It was not too hard a stock but, it was the third hunt we put on.
Spotted them at 250, too far for her, and the gun. Went west but could not get in under 200 yards, back then to the east.
Cut alfalfa field a few rolling high spots but if we got on our hands and knees apparently they could not see us. We got to 150 and could set up. The buck stood and started to walk away and behind some brush. She held tough and waited for it to come out. He did but at 188 yards. I asked if she was good with that and she thought it was a good shot. I said you're behind the scope if you like it, take it.
Very shortly she did Bang, thud, kerplop.
At 9:38 AM she was finished for the year.

One big fat 4x4 mule deer.

She has no father in her life I have been Papa daycare all her life.
We hunt/fish together all year long. Next year she will be in Middle school and "BOYS" may start taking part of her time, I'll be one sad Papa, but happy for her.

That's awesome! I love seeing kids get their first deer, it's something they remember for a long time. I still remember the first buck I shot when I was 12, and I always will.

I remember too. This is her second deer. Last year she got a 4x4 with eye guards whit tail, she was 10. She is 11 now.

Last year she was 10 as so easy and anticlimactic it felt kind of like " beginners luck".
This one we had to do some work. First just to make sure it was NOT beginner's luck we shot all summer, special times on their own.
We did some stocks before pay dirt, they did not work out.
The stock we did do we needed to do right to get a shot SHE thought she could do. She carried her gun and sticks, set up the shot then waited to get the RIGHT shot. It felt SOOOO good to see her work it out...
