Sitka Discontinues Goretex

I remember going there in Missoula as a kid. Miss that stuff. There used to be a store in Hamilton of the same kind if feeling. Years ago. mtmuley

Whitefish and Kalispell have an Army Navy. Used to be one in C Falls. Nothing like the old Army surplus stores I grew up with.

I'm sure they got gentrified.
First indication..the warehouse smell is probably gone.

And they’re now full of new merchandise. Not actual “surplus” gear. Jungle boots, tanker boots, rag tag fatigue jackets…

A couple years ago I stopped at the surplus place off the interstate South of Idaho Falls. First time. It was a whole lot if fun. Bought some socks.😆

Back to Army/ Navy surplus. The rubber rain jackets lasted one season...$15.
My final jacket had the owners last name on the inside. The name was Lovely.
Can you imagine boot camp with the name Prvt.Lovely?🤣
I still joke about that one.
There was a poor bastard in my basic training platoon named “Manlove”. Poor bastard……….

I remember my dad taking me in the one in Missoula when I turned 12 to get me my own set of wool pants for hunting. Shot my first elk that next fall in 204 wearing those things and ran them for a long time before upgrading.

HAHA. Seriously?!?!?! W.L. Gore & Associates owns Sitka Gear. Sooooo, the child is cancelling the parent???

In 2009, W.L. Gore & Associates Inc., an American multinational company best known as the developer of waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® Fabrics, purchased Sitka Gear, a high-performance system of hunting clothes.

Aren’t you Dick Tracy. Sitka has discontinued the use of Goretex, regardless of the buyout…

I got some German Army wool pants in Santa Fe at an army surplus store; best hunting pants ever; warm, quiet, and the weave was so dense snow didn't penetrate much.

Sure the store is long gone due to gentrification.

Was still there 5 or so years ago. Got some wool mitts there.

Just wondering what REI and such have done?
My gore-tex rain suit is ancient Cabellas. My Gander Mtn waterfowl parka is even older.

Everything smells like chemicals to me these days. Outside my place.
Always hated plastics.

Looks like they have recently brought out some new goretex stuff online that just says not for sale to NY or CA residents. If they’re getting rid of it all together I wish the online prices reflected that
