Sitka Discontinues Goretex

We are spending a whole lot of time at work trying to determine any parts made with hexavalent chrome. Im told by our engineers it's really nasty stuff. Suppliers will need to find alternatives.

It's not the goretex that's a concern in your coat. The process of making that cost releases nasty chemicals into the ground water.

Unfortunately, those chemicals don't break down in nature, hence the name forever chemicals.

3M in Minnesota has had to pay large sums to cities affected by their manufacturing to build advanced water treatment plants that can filter out PFAS.

Other major trouble makers with PFAS is the airforce and fire departments as certain fire fighting foams used PFAS and contaminated ground water sources around air ports.

So long story short, glad to see they are moving to coatings that don't require PFAS to create. Many communities will be better off without the chemicals being used

Don’t you dare take away my cancer-causing chemicals! Cancer is like the tooth fairy. Doesn’t exist.

I am sure they will gave a great alternative. Look at Kuiu. They don’t use Goretex and it’s as waterproof as you can get in performance fabrics. I have never been wet and I hunt in Oregon.

I'm going back to Wonder bread bags for dry all-day feet and a heavy duty garbage bag with cut outs for a hardshell. Mom knew a thing or two.

It is frustrating that companies don’t just do the right thing when they find out the harm their product can cause and will seek profit over health/right thing 99/100 times unless forced otherwise.

Equally as frustrating are the three letter agencies we entrust to “do the right thing” for the public that have failed us over the years.

Equally frustrating reading this forum.

It's not about what the fabric is doing to the consumer, it's the process of making it. SMH. Netflix has a pretty good movie about Teflon, Dark Waters, and the impact of PFAS on a local farmer and others, but hey I'm sure all those using Teflon pans were totally fine with the environmental and deadly impacts for that family.

If you already own the stuff, throwing it out or giving it away isn't the solution, it's already made and the impact has already been done is my understanding.

Goretex has been made since 1969 and it took this long for something to happen? mtmuley
I drank this water most of my childhood, fortified with Floride and forever chemicals.
Probably just a conspiracy theory............

Back to Army/ Navy surplus. The rubber rain jackets lasted one season...$15.
My final jacket had the owners last name on the inside. The name was Lovely.
Can you imagine boot camp with the name Prvt.Lovely?🤣
I still joke about that one.
