Silencerco Scythe question

I have a question to ask the group. My research has led me to most likely getting the Scythe for my 7prc. Has anyone ran this can along with the ASR Muzzle break they offer too? If so do you see a noticable amount of recoil reduction by using the brake with the can? Reason asking my mom will be using my rifle this fall and if i can lessen the recoil for her that would be great.

The purpose of the ASR system is to be a QD mounting interface. The muzzle brake will mostly be covered when the suppressor is attached, but the suppressor itself still contributes to recoil mitigation by slowing and redirecting expanding gases.

The benefit of the brake will be to mitigate recoil regardless of a suppressor being attached or not, they just won't work together. Also remember the brake will make the 7PRC loud as f without the can.

Before you take the dive i would take a look at the failure thread on Rokslide concerning the Scythe. I am a Scythe owner and it has been fantastic for me but i wish i had known about the failures before my purchase.

i was unsure if they worked together or not, if having it added any value or not when used together.

The brake wont do anything in the suppressor. Muzzle brakes are loud - to the point that putting up with the recoil might be easier. I have one only on one rifle - i dont like to shoot it without hearing protection - even hunting. Ironically i bet my wife would take the recoil over the blast/sound.

i dont mind the recoil "yet" haha i just saw it was an option and was not sure if it would add any value or not. thank you

there's a brake attachment that can be put on the outlet end of the scythe to reduce recoil further..but it negates some of the sound reduction when added.

There's some discussion on RS that the scythe can have weld failures when used with magnum cartridges but ok with standard cartridges...fwiw

I was considering the scythe (and it probably would have been fine w my rifle) but from that data I went with the Dead Air Nomad Ti XC...unfortunately doesn't look like silencerco participated in the test sessions, would like to have seen a comparison

Haven't seen anything with actual comparisons of recoil reduction between various manufacturers and models

The nomad was 2nd on my list as of now. Still considering it now reading some of the other comments.

I have a Scythe TI. I have put about 100 rounds of my 300wsm through it and 600 or so with a 6.5 cm. It comes with the single port brake and does provide good recoil reduction. My 300wsm is just over 8 pounds with the scope and recoil is roughly like an unbraked 708.

I also have a Scythe Ti on a 7PRC with 22" carbon barrel that weighs in under 8 lbs. Felt recoil reduction is nice- my 5 ft 90lb kid would not stop shooting the gun when we were doing barrel break in. He is not super recoil sensitive but is built like a green bean and had zero complaints about recoil. I have not have any issues with mine and am on the hunt for an additional can.

I wouldn’t mess with the ASR or any additional muzzle adapter at all unless your barrel isn’t threaded 5/8x24. And in that case, I’d just get a hun direct thread adapter for your threads to replace the one that came in the can.

I have a scythe and it’s been good to me but it’s only ever been on 6 and 6.5 creedmoors or similar. I wouldn’t buy one for a magnum or really anything unless it’s going to be used sparingly on a modest (read 308 and smaller) cartridge just due to the reported failures.

I also have a nomad XC and like it. I don’t think there is the sample size of them out in the wild yet but haven’t heard of any failures yet (fingers crossed). I’d go that direction before a scythe. With a ti flush DT hub adapter in the nomad xc, you’d basically be at the same weight and just a little longer than a scythe.
