I live on the East Coast and am thinking of going to the sheep show. I make just over $135K/year, so after paying the mortgage and other bills, I really dont have much of a hunting budget left over. I do dream of hunting all the sheep, many of the goats, and just love being in the mountains period. Do you think it's possible for a guy like me to go there and have a good time even if Im not booking hunts or bidding on tags, or am I going to be out of place? Thanks for any advice

I’m thinking of going this year. If you win the “less than one club” hunt it is worth it for sure.

Go and have a a blast . You will always regret not going and just window shopping. To me this is the very best outdoor show. I was privedged to be able to go sheep hunting several times and they represent the pinnacle of my outdoor experiences. I just looked up how much a Dall's sheep hunt is currently with one of the top outfitters in NWT....air fare, license, hunt fee, tips, taxidermy- etc. about $65,000.. and there is a waiting list.

I've been to 14 of the last 15 Sheep Shows. I really enjoy it, but I know a LOT of people there, and it's mostly for the social aspect. There are a bunch of people there just like you and me....dreaming. There are a few low odds chances of winning sheep hunts, but they will strip the Benjamins from your wallet quickly.

It's getting late to make plans. I'm fairly sure the Saturday night dinner is already sold out, and hotel rooms are scarce.

If you're solely trying to hunt sheep, you'd be better off staying home and putting your Reno travel money into raffles.

Sheep show is a blast for everyone. I would suggest going and enjoying yourself. You can chat with outfitters in order to set yourself up to achieve your goals and what you need to do to financially to do so. I make less then you and still have fun I don’t think it has anything to do with how much you make but more so just getting to know people and have a relationship with people you can see once a year.

Like Oak said, put that money into raffles if the goal is to hunt sheep.

But if you’re looking for a good time, I wouldn’t discount some of the other shows or activities as well in cheaper to reach cities. Can be a great time with like minded folks. Some occur at a better time of year to visit the place and see the sights.

Park City Total Archery Challenge

Hunt Expo in SLC

DSC Convention in Atlanta

Plenty of others I imagine.

I would agree that the Hunt Expo in SLC is better if you’re just wanting to look at stuff. Probably a better choice

If you are looking to hunt sheep, the sheep show won't really help you unless you have the $ to spend on a hunt.

If you don't have the 60k you need, save your money that you would spend traveling to and attending the show and dump it in a raffle or two. You will be better off.

If you have the $ to buy a hunt, the Sheep Show is a great place to do that.
