Sharing the Trails

Matt Let me guess... Berkley North??? ;) Doesn't surprise me one bit however.

Now do they make all those crazy bikers obey the laws... They had a problem with that every time I was in that town... Amongst other 'hippy' things. :D

I think the atv'ers had every right to be on the same road... Its public land and a public road... public is public. I really don't see that bike is any better than an ATV... I'd bet on average the same percentage break the laws...

I'm not sure if you guys get the Bike America up there or not, but we used to get them come through our town twice a year. There was literly 1500 to 2000 of them on the highway... Should we have taken another road out of town?

I personally am not fond of bikers anyway... Just about every one ya run into act like the world owes em something... Maybe that's why I dont' care for Missoula?... ;)

Ten Bears, good point! Mountain bikers really are welfare bikers, in some cases anyway. Here in Washington a portion of the gas tax goes into maintenance of trails and enforcement. Mountain bikers are getting a free ride!

WH would know exactly what I am talking about with the fact bicycles don't pay for what they use...

Look at the amount of money spent just in his area for bicycle traffic, and none of the $$$ come from them directly, it is built with road dollars last I heard.

They have a holier than though elitist attitude and think for some odd reason, their crap doesn’t stink...

I would even venture a guess that most of them own a gas guzzling something or another that they are looking down their pointy little noses at others for, as if it’s a crime or some thing...

They also most generally seem to be the same people that think they should have been the last person to move into an area and that every one should change because they "feel" that things should be changed to fill the needs of their narrow ideals.

As with every thing else, you can't base these few individuals from the total population, just like you can't judge all who ride ATV'rs to be role models.

I just have a very sour note for individuals who chase the pipe dream that bicycles are the answer to the nation’s woes and problems.

I used to have air horns in one of my old trucks and when I lived in Washington, would chase individuals into the ditch that were on the roads who had a perfectly good bike lane to utilize and wouldn't...

Might have been a little sadistic and mean spirited, but I would get a laugh for a good week plus every time these two wheeled Bass Plugs (Look at them in the sun light at a distance with all their pretty clothes and shiny spokes, this is what they resemble) would take a nose dive into a black berry patch. :)

First off, I like bicyclists less than atvers (mostly because they slow traffic and dodge onto and off of the road so much, it tends to scare me for their safety). I don't like motorcyclists when they are dodging in and out of traffic also which most crotch rockets drivers tend to do. There are bike lanes and new bike trails along the railroad tracks and downtown, University area, etc. that keep bikes out of the traffic (well worth the fee they pay). I personally don't own a bike. I have seen a few bicycles get pulled over by the police. I'm not sure how many do or why but I have seen a few. I do give them credit (in town anyway). They do patrol their own and they promote bicycle safety and abiding the law with their messages (unlike atvers who promote off road use in their own commercials).

Still, I think giving a bicycle room on a logging road (two tire trail), is not too much to ask. Again, they are allowed to do this. I guess you can't enforce ethics.

I don't have a problem with bicycles, ATV's, or any other form of transportation as long as it's used legally, safely, and in a way that will not damage the environment. Just because somebody rides a bicycle doesn't mean they're a bad person! Heck, a lot of guys use mountain bikes for hunting in areas that aren't open to motorized vehicles, and I may try it someday, if I can ever justify to myself spending $1500 on a bicycle.

Like this, it gets hundreds, if not thousands of miles stacked against it since I have had it, and my buddy here has been along for almost all of them... :)

But I don't pay taxes to have it in the mountains, and I would give any one the right of way that had a vehicle.... :)

I went on one afternoon ride on an open trail with my 4year old recently, and we ran into some hikers who had backpacked 7 miles up the trail. They were noticably peeved, but I couldn't help but wonder why they would backpack up an ATV trail and be grouchy when an ATV came by.

I've passed hikers in local National Forest areas who were also obviously peeved when they noticed my rifle.. Comments like, "Are you sure hunting is allowed in a wilderness area?" or "I hope you don't get anything."

Even though there's plenty of butthole brainless nature hikers, I wish they'd lock down more trails to ATV use. Anybody seen this: Trail Use Survey

Basically, I dislike rude people. A high percentage of mountain bikers are, simply, rude people. They pedal along at 1 mph uphill in the middle of the road and dare you to do anything about it. They speed downhill, swinging wide into the middle of the lane, instead of slowing down to a controllable velocity.

I dislike them as much as the person in the fast lane of the freeway, going the same speed as the people next to him or who barely makes the speed limit and who takes enforcement of the speed limit as his personal responsibility. Or the person who cuts in line, or refuses to use turn signals, or who pulls out in front of me when there are no cars behind me for 5 miles....

I trained for cardio on a bike for over ten years. Rode many races. I can categorically attest to the fact that serious competitive cyclists are the most self absorbed a##holes I've ever encountered.

Get back to nature on one of these.. :D

I can`t get it to work[ never mind] was a joke anyway. :D

Doesn't work for me cj.

NH, are you saying you are one? (or were one)

:D Figured I had that coming. No, guess I didn't have the knack for deliberate rudeness. I was a 'middle of the pack' kinda rider. Backtracking slightly, it is a take no prisoner sport and I have the utmost respect for the top spinners...they are cardio machines. But the are supreme a-holes. They challenge the strong and bury the weak.

WH... You don't need to spend that kind of money on some thing you will only be usually using seasonally... Mine (pictured above) has served me very well so far and I only spent a couple hundred bucks on it at Wally World.

Ken... Your picture comes up...

I was hiking this weekend and was on a trail open to atv's. I came across an atver waiting for the rest of his group to catch up. I said hi. He just gave me a nasty look and said nothing. Some atver's can be aholes as well.

Paul...

I think those nasty sorts of people are in every walk of life... No matter where you go.. :D

Are you serious Matt? You like bicyclists less than ATVers? Given your leanings and views, I never in a hundred years would have guessed this.

I am completely the opposite. I think every road should have a bike lane and that people should get so fed up having to slow down for them and yield to them that they get their fat asses out of their cars and trucks and get on a bike instead.
