Selecting a "Premium" Unit for 11 PP

Maybe I should have clarified that cheaper motels aren’t so good in worland. Cheaper motels in thermopolis seemed to be nicer. I’m very cheap. I probably haven’t stayed in all of them, though.

Funniest/weirdest experience at Riverton when we hunted 67 was at about 2AM when a giant of a man came into the room drunk/high and tried to crawl into bed with my buddy. Guy must have been 6'8" and about 300 lbs. He was like watching the Undertaker come in when we all woke up and realized there was a random dude in our room.

Door was locked, but somehow his key worked in the door. Glad it worked out as we escorted him outta the room....lol

My problem with current strategy of researching 'premium' units is still the decision of drawing a unit that requires 11 points vs blending and doing a great hunt in a unit that requires 7ish or less points as well. Good spot to be in, especially with a wife that killed a 76" buck this year and with me killing a 77" buck here in Canada.

I have no idea where you read that about 114 because other than the stretch along the river north and south of Worland the unit is over 90% public land. 114 would fit what you're talking about if you want to motel it since you could stay right in Worland and go out from there every day since a mile or two out of town is almost all public to the north, south, and east of there. That's sort of my neck of the woods for the last 20 years or so and I'd highly recommend it along with unit 67 that was mentioned.

A lot of the threads I've read on 114 were on MonsterMuleys and Eastmans. Most of the posts in regards to private land, etc were actually from you on both sites. In the past you had said yourself you wouldn't waste points in that zone but that was 3 years ago and things obviously change year to year. I honestly haven't looked enough at it and was just going by a few guys saying they wouldn't use points up there, but its the internet as we know so all part of the research is taking stuff with a grain of salt.

Winter will obviously have an impact on decision between combining points or drawing a unit for wife by herself. I love having the options, that's for sure!

We've guided to bucks over 87 inches in every single unit mentioned in this thread. Not to toot our own horn, but more to illustrate that any of the areas mentioned can and will produce great bucks. It's very difficult to know which units will be better than the others on any given year. Sometimes the lower point units end up being the better choices. Other years, the max point units are the best.

We hit 114 during a great year the first time we hunted it and killed an 89-4/8 and an 86. But the last time we hunted it I spent 7 days up there and didn't see a buck over 80. It can change so fast in Wyoming that you'll never know when to draw a specific unit.

Sure seems like the case Eli from any research a guy does it's obvious that there are hit and miss years in each and every zone. Even more evident is that obviously patience and putting time in on several days of searching and having the experience to pick apart bucks to know what you are looking at is huge. It's a testament to your experience and level of dedication to it.

I'm a decent pronghorn judge but more so just know when I'm looking at something big. Anything in the high 70s would likely suit my wife just fine and any zone we pick should provide that opportunity to keep the dream alive of finding "the one". Guess that's why we like it so much!
