I don’t know what the bell is like on that scope. I had to use a rail to be able to get the eye relief right on a long action x-bolt. But that was on a VX-5.just looking for confirmation on my choice here. Going with the Leupold VX- Freedom 3-9x40 Hunt Plex and the talley mediums on the x bolt hunter 30-06 long action. Any help is appreciated feel free to PM thanks in advance
I’m curious what cal your using the Talley mount on. I have it on a 300prc and it looks like where the bolts screw down to the gun are bulging out. I have another Talley mount optics planer sent wrong by mistake for long action instead of mag and there is no bulging on that one.Talley...possibly mediums but lows may work. You'd have to talk to them to confirm. You may be able to get 20MOA rings but likely not necessary.
Mounting on a rail will likely require only low rings. I've used a bunch of brands. Leupold's fit my price range with comfort in knowing the brand
6.5PRC I'm using the Talley one piece (ring and bases in one) no issue. I even spent way too much for their 34mm and they work great.I’m curious what cal your using the Talley mount on. I think that I may be onto the issue. I’ve seen typically prs guns weigh more. 10+lbs my 300prc is 6.9 I believe. The scopes are usually around 1.5lb. The vortex I have weighs 2.6. I think with the lighter gun and heavier scope it’s stressing the rings and mount more than it should. I’m going to try a lighter scope and see what happens. Shame because it was purchased to be a long range gunAluminum mounts work fine if they are designed well. I'm not familiar with the one pictured above but I always avoid vertical split rings because the bottom screws typically have to clamp both the scope and the rail which can cause odd deformation of scope tubes among other issues.
I have talleys ultralights on my single xbolt and they have worked fine but I wouldn't get them again due to how many stories of them cracking I've seen.
