Many of you know Cardiff as a slow down on the way to the North Fork of the Clearwater River country. Many drove past this gas station thinking it wasn't open. It's not flashy. Just an old station in a small town.

Cause is still under investigation. Tank truck driver and apprentice were life-flighted to Spokane and were last listed as critical. The homes on either side and several vehicles were lost as well.
Two men in the store were found later and this was the first article to publish their names.

Lot's of hate for the drivers running on social media about possible procedural violation regarding static grounding lines, etc. The cause is still under investigation by the State of Idaho and ATF explosion investigation teams. HT is better than FB and I'm not posting this to invite that kind of discussion. Just an iconic town and store for many HTers over the years.

This appears to be two tandem trailers in the picture, but it is one tanker blown in half.

Dang. I don't know much about fuel trucks, but I do recall watching a safety video about the dangers of static and such when fuel is being transferred to or from trucks. Scary stuff. A few years ago I responded to the scene of a fuel tanker explosion on I-15 west of Boulder, MT. The driver did not survive, and the amount of energy released after he rolled and the tanks exploded was humbling to say the least.
