Sad state of affairs

Sorry , I got it now . Carry on , my bad ...
No problem. What got to me is that my word is and has been something I'm proud of. A handshake is a firm no bullshit deal. NOBODY went back on a handshake. Those days are fading rapidly and for me it makes me very sad. Look what things have come to. People scamming others so much it's a common thing. It's something we have to live with now.

Another well known member here and I were going to meet nose to nose today for a deal on some stuff. Everything was pretty much worked out , we even talked on the phone. In the end we mutually agreed to drop it because neither one of us felt %100 comfortable with the other. He seemed like a great guy, we had a couple laughs on the phone but neither one of us felt perfectly comfortable. It's sad when 2 good people actually didn't trust the other guy. We live in a paranoid world and a handshake doesn't mean what it used to.
Rant over for now,
John

TRANSLATION: "I'm paranoid."

Unbelievable! I would insert a string of derogatory names here but you just go ahead and interpret it anyway you wish.
Lots of deals just don't work out for whatever reason. I wont sell or buy from someone who not a well know member. That being said some things don't work out.

If it didn't feel right then it probably wasn't mean to be.

There's been BS artists now, a hundred years ago, and from time in memorial. Plenty of people broke their word in the 50s they just had to have the nerve to do it face to face. Don't go blaming younger generations on your changing perspective of the world. Charles Ponzi was born before you.

1977 I was working at Chevrolet Flint , down in the hole , friday 3.30 pm . Two brothers in a caddy pull up , pop the trunk to show boxes wrapped in twine , butcher boxes back then . "Ten bucks a box" he said and cut the top box open showing two beautiful T-bones .
Sold every box in no time , I didn't get one , I had no cash .
Next day everybody told the same tale , nothing but scraps and suet ....

I could go on , but you get my point ?

Let me help restore everyone’s faith in humanity. This June, I bought a shotgun from a member here from Montana, I live in Iowa. Rather than the hassle of shipping, I asked him if he ever traveled near my friends ranch in MT. He said he did, but it wouldn’t be till later in the summer/early fall. I said perfect. I mailed him a $1200 check so he could fun his next gun purchase right away. When he had time, he dropped it off at my friends ranch, they held it for me till I made it out there this November. I had no prior dealings with this member and had never met him. I can tell you all that @Pagosa is a heck of a good guy and I’d trust him for anything going forward.

I visit a fly fishing forum that has a similar vibe as Hunttalk. Sold a bunch of flyrods over the years. Never had an issue. I don't know the members as well as on Hunttalk, so I always just said when the money clears on my end the rod goes in the mail.
Having been around this site for awhile, I wouldn't hesitate a transaction with any member that is a regular contributer and a familiar name.

I was really interested in an autographed pristine copy of Bowhunting Trophy Blacktail by Cameron Hanes that was posted on here a while back. I backed off though. I just had a bad feeling about the whole thing. I mean, who, in their right mind, would be willing to part with something like that? 🤔

Good move. mtmuley

One time I had a $900 once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, really good deal from another well-known member here on a M16A2. It was FA, came with a case of 5.56 on stripper clips and authentic because the dude’s father was issued it 1970 and got it stateside in a body bag. We had PayPal friends/family transaction planned that day, but I fortunately found out that model didn’t exist then! Scammer thought he was so slick. And it just goes to show you, some stories we hear on the internet are complete bullshit nonsense, you know? Scary world out there.

Edit- we love you, John, please don’t get mad at me bustin balls here.
