Another well known member here and I were going to meet nose to nose today for a deal on some stuff. Everything was pretty much worked out , we even talked on the phone. In the end we mutually agreed to drop it because neither one of us felt %100 comfortable with the other. He seemed like a great guy, we had a couple laughs on the phone but neither one of us felt perfectly comfortable. It's sad when 2 good people actually didn't trust the other guy. We live in a paranoid world and a handshake doesn't mean what it used to.
Rant over for now,
John

That is sad. Sorry to hear. Back in September I met a fellow H’ter to make a sale and it went great.

I think it may have been a little background noise from both of our wives that put the suspicion into it. I'll bet that if left to our own thinking it would have been fine. Still no complaints here. It was a mutual friendly agreement that we dropped the deal.

My wife gets paranoid as all get out when I’m dealing with someone on Facebook marketplace. It probably doesn’t help when she’s asking me if I’m worried about meeting someone and I just respond “they better not bring a knife to gun fight.”

A well known member from Hunttalk I wouldn’t be worried about.

I really don’t understand the point of this post.
You make a plan to meet someone who’s a well known member on here, come to an agreement on meeting, then you both get cold feet.
What’s the reason for cold feet? You say you talk on the phone have some laughs and then you’re both weirded out. I’m not sure what the sad state of affairs is? You guys decided not to make the deal because what you thought if you met him he’d stiff you face to face or did it feel dangerous?
I’ve dealt with probably a dozen members on here and had nothing but good experiences. Obviously there are scammers, but it sounds like this is just you not wanting to either buy or sell that bad, which is fine. The whole point of this post doesn’t make sense to me.

The point was that the good old days of handshake deals are fading away. It's sad to me at my age that people just don't trust each other anymore. It seems everyone is looking down the road for "what if". It never used to be like that. My word, or yours was all that was needed. Now I've come to where I don't trust as much as I used to . The other guy is the same. I think it's because the younger generations have destroyed the trust in each other and it's rubbing off onto the older guys like me. That's what's sad to me.

You sure seem to have alot of problems buying and selling things here. Didnt you have an issue with paypal not too long ago?

You not trusting this guys word isn’t the fault of younger generations.
If you keep having negative experiences, maybe you’re the common demonitator?
If you don’t want to buy online from strangers then don’t, but you don’t need to be fear mongering unless there is a credible threat.

Yeah, I buying a scope from Dave N . PayPal directed the payment to a Dave Nxxxxxxx and Dave's PayPal name is David Nxxxxxxx. No one's fault except PayPal glitch. PayPal wouldn't back it up because the $$ was sent as a gift to ditch the PayPal fees. It took about a month to get my money back.

That's ok Bill but you missed the point. It wasn't fear mongering. It was a simple rant on how people don't trust each other's words anymore. Coffee is no longer a nickel and you can't buy a Pepsi for a dime. Times change and it's sad to see. That's it, nothing more than my observations.
