Sitka Gear Turkey Tool Belt

Ron Spomer and Hammer Bullets

I have been testing 199 gr Hammer Hunters in my 9 twist 30 Nosler this weekend. Yesterday, I shot 6 shots, increasing charge weight by 0.5 grains for each round. Today, I loaded 5 more, going up from where I left off. For the 5.0 grain increase from round 1 to round 11, velocity went from 2849 to 3065. Retumbo was about 100 fps faster but the groups opened up. I am going to try some 3 shot groups with both powders next.

I’ve got a little more work to do, but it’s looking like I’ll hit a sweet spot with 199’s and H1000 around 3150 fps in my PRC.

I might have to pull out the H1000 myself. I have lots more of the RL26 and Retumbo though.
Hell of a problem to have…

I tried them with N568, but my chrono was being temperamental. Couldn’t catch a reading. May just back a grain off pressure and try some groups. Finger crossed it reads next time. If it’s anything like my N568 and 220 ELDX loads they’ll be a bit slower, but smaller SD and ES. I’ll take the slower velocity for more consistency any day.
