RIP: Snailhorn

The long life of a hardy sheep. In December of 2016, a 4.5-year-old bighorn sheep ram was captured near Quake Lake in the Madison Range, as a part of a statewide disease-surveillance project. The ram was given red ear-tag #79.

Sort of wonder how you field judge the curl on that to determine if it is a legal ram.

Cool article. Sounds more like he may have gotten hit by a car or eaten something bad along the road. Looks healthy enough just a few days earlier to say he starved. Doesn’t really matter in the end!

I don’t know if I only had one chance at a bighorn, if I would shoot this Ram, providing it was legal. It would also depend on how much season was left when you saw him. He would be a unique trophy for sure…

Who ended up with the skull?

Apparently he was found dead near a road and FWP retained the skull. It's going to be hung in the Regional office.
