Always cool when u get a bird with a history you can track....although this drake bluebill has a very short track, having been banded Aug 17 as a juvenile about 15 miles from where I collected him.
Congrats. It is always a bit of a thrill when you get a banded bird. Over my life time I have gotten some geese that were banded in different areas of Canada and some ducks and geese that were banded here in the states.
13th banded bird and 5th species Ive taken. Mostly mallards, 5 banded in MT. 4 mallards have been banded in Alberta, all from the same area, One of these was 11 yrs old. My gadwall was banded in NE Sask, shot in SW MT. My cinnamon teal first Cinnamon teal of my life was shot in CA, banded in WA. My coolest (IMO) was a 5yr old drake pintail shot in SW MT, but banded on the Yukon Delta in AK.
I find it interesting how the birds move around inside and outside of the flyways
