recession?

Normally I'd agree, but this one is pretty cut and dry. Trump threatens Tariffs and market tanks, he pulls back and it stabilizes. He threatens again and market tanks. People need to be held responsible for their actions.

Knee-jerking our way to the "But Trump" argument in less than two months is just silly, markets go up and down daily all the time for all sorts of things-some reasonable, some stupid, and some on the other side of the planet. Maybe the guy knows nothing about economics, maybe he's playing a longer game, I have a degree in it-maybe I'm smarter than the president and his advisors, who knows? That being said, most people forget economics is not an instant-gratification playing field, it is slow like molasses, we will be talking about the next presidential campaigns when this adminstration's economic policies are actually coming to light.

Tariffs don’t move like molasses on prices.

It boggles my mind after living through the past eight years that people wave off the man words as bluster.

For better or terribly worse, the man is not and never has been joking about anything that comes out of his mouth.

That's why he won the election, people got sick of bluster and jokers...

Thought we were talking about the economy? As far as prices-didn't the price of timber/lumber go up something like 4-5x in the first 6 months of the last administration? And I recall the average price of a new home doubling in the same time period. Stuff like this happens every time, no matter who sits in the chair.

Hunting related…….?

We made it through Obamas recession. IF it happens, you guys should be okay. Given how many of you are millionaires and all….
LOL!

Revisional thinking much?

Always amazing to me how people don't consult readily available sources before making statements that are so far off. This one reflects market performance by president. I always say Presidents have less impact on the market than many think--but the key is do they mess with things that affect the market negatively--eg. tariff wars-- or let it move on its own. I know personally I made a LOT more money under democratic presidents than republican.

when the bluster that isn't bluster is mentally unstable nonsense the destabilizes global alliances and economies it's a big deal.

pretty much every analyst that doesn't work for fox news or the administration is in agreement these tariffs will be negative for the economy.

stop pretending this man isn't throwing hand grenades in a glass house.

Covid much? Both Trump and Biden deserve and asterisk during those years, though we can say Trump worked hard to make Covid worse initially.

Yes, and the ones you speak of need negativity in the market or they'll look like fools for constantly rooting against the guy for the last 10 years. The best anyone can do is forecast and guess, that's my point, not sure anyone is understanding that. Inflation is down, and so is the inflation forecast, so who knows what else will happen?

Sorry, I just spit my coffee out...

Politics gif. Joe Biden in sunglasses turns to us and grins from behind the wheel of a banana-yellow Corvette in a parody video about life in the White House.

biden didn't have a near united front of nearly 100 year old allies and trade partners questioning if we can be trusted anymore or worse, are even a threat to their own security. forgetting what you had for breakfast is a bit different.

Ok, this is just too funny and getting off track, I'm going to take a step back. Have a better day man! Go put in for your fall hunting apps or something!

It's been gathering steam for a couple years, a recession generally takes 2-3 quarters to become real, which is longer than 50 days. Folks love to blame a sitting president for the economy the minute he is sworn into office, and it happens literally every election, but that's generally not how it works.
Like stupid policies have nothing to do with it? Some think his endgame with Canadian tariffs is to bring them to the table regarding becoming the 51st state.

Normally I would agree with you. But a President doesn't typically have a goal of wrecking the entire system. The stock market is not the economy. It is looking 12 months out. Economic data is delayed, and to your point, often you almost don't know you are in a recession until you are coming out of it. The job losses are COMPLETELY on this President. It is in the play book. For every 5 people in government there are 2 in private sector tied to a government contract. Those people are worried too. As we watch the faster indicators, like consumer spending, we see them rolling over. People get worried and stop spending. We are watching an exogenous shock in real time.
