Rain jackets???

What do you use?? I know many like the small nap fleece jackets with a waterproof liner, but they seem overly heavy to me. Plus, I'm not totally convinced yet that the extra quietness is needed or worth the weight. I'm happy with the jacket I've been using, but it is a bit brightly colored. These two are on the short list:

For backpack hunts, I use a simple camo gore-tex shell. I think its Columbia brand. It's not very quiet but function is good.

For non-backpack hunts I have a 10x lined jacket. It's 4x as heavy as the shell, but more comfortable.

I like the one I have made by Red Ledge. Lightweight and inexpensive, a little noisy yes, but for what I use it for it doesn't really matter. What I like is it doesn't absorb any moisture, like most of the quiet fabrics do. Here it is:

I think it really depends on the activity. Are you looking for something to put in the backpack for high country hunting? Are you just looking for something to throw in the truck for days on the river? How important is durability to you? Rivers West makes an outstanding waterproof product that is extremely durable, but I would never wear it in temperatures above thirty degrees. The two products you are considering are great choices for general all around use.

WH - I have the pants, just haven't gotten to use 'em yet.

Tbone- Truck/day hunts do negate the weight issue. But backpacking in near Salmon after elk sure makes that extra 1# seem like a LOT. I'm wondering if some of these new hardshell/softshell jackets won't work for both?

if your looking for good rain gear thats light weight,quiet & camo. look at buying MAD DOG.

I have MAD DOG jacket & pants I use them & like them ALOT, as for gore-tex for me in MN those are not worth wearing tell about Nov. & then only stand hunting.

Bought time someone used the materials/techniques that the hardcore backpacking/climbing folks use for hunting clothes. I'm gonna try to get a weight on their garments this week.

My buddy has a set of Frogg Toggs and really likes them. Very lightweight, and he claims they even keep him dry riding his motorcycle.
I've got the good heavy Columbia stuff, but it's a bit hot for fishing and early fall use.

I've tried the Sitka gear, very cool stuff. Saw it at the RMEF show earlier this year. Ordered a full set.
