Quiet Birds...But Productive

I`m not sure what everyone else is experiencing with toms gobbling or not lately, but from what I`ve noticed and from others around NC, it has been extremely quiet. To the point that we`re not hearing any gobbling at all. Our season came in last Saturday and I had the opportunity to hunt three days this week on three different locations. Although they were not making a sound, I was able to take one Thursday afternoon and one Friday morning, which is good for me on these Eastern birds. All I could do was go to where turkeys have a history of being, sit tight, call aggressive for a very short period of time, then shut up for 30-40 minutes. Both came slipping in looking, but not strutting. It`s hard turkey hunting like that and resisting the urge to look elsewhere, but it paid off. Both were heavy long beards.

Nice birds. It was the same for me; they all had lock jaw and finally had to just go to them and got close enough that my tom couldn't resist and came running but never did gobble or strut.

Obviously I got lucky and managed to kill a couple, but this year is the worse I've seen it for hearing birds since, I think, '94 when it snowed right before the season opener. There's been alot of talk about it . But that's hunting. Just like the way you and I approached it. You have to take the circumstances and adapt to it to make it work.

congrats, quiet here too but I've been seeing lots of birds running around just not making noise.

Right on.....birds are definitely acting different this year. But still a blast to bowhunt. Congratulations on your long beard and thanks for sharing.
