Questions regarding WY towns

if you guys could get about 200,000 people to leave wyoming do to health care issues, maybe i could afford a place in lander,,,

i need someone to put a gps tracker on buzz's truck for me though,,,,

It's the freakin' wind I say. The wind is causing the mental health issues! 🥴😖😁
Something needs to disperse the hantavirus.

On a serious note, though, and I do love to visit Wyoming, the wind has to be considered. I recently spent 11 days in the Wyoming forests hunting elk and the amount of blowdown will significantly limit anyone's access to the back country, especially if you're at retirement age. I don't think you get that kind of blowdown without that kind of wind. Just being in the pines when a mild wind blows, will give you the heebie-jeebies.

I grew up in Billings and have several family members in the medical community there. Billings will cover 99% of your health needs, outside of very serious accidents, major high-risk surgeries or super rare cancer/genetic conditions. You will get flown to Salt Lake (generally) if it is really serious.

As far as areas, I can't speak to Casper/Gillette. I have spent a lot of time in both Powell and Sheridan. The only real difference, for me, is that the Bighorn Valley has a higher population of Mormons and they sometimes are not as welcoming to newcomers. Still good people tho, especially once you are established. The areas are pretty similar, tho Sheridan is much bigger and more stuff in town. Lots of people still travel to Billings to pick up major items. Cody/Powell is generally quite a bit windier than Sheridan also.
Nonsense. If you are sick with more than a cold in Montana, it's essentially a death sentence. No one in their right mind should move here.

Our WY docs have handled bp issues, shoulder surgery etc. At times better than nh,
NH a state which also transfers patients down the road...
I agree with @wytex and @JM77 there are some great doctors in Laramie, Casper and Cheyenne. I was shocked at the quality of the doctors I had in Cheyenne dealing with my covid induced blood clot issues this past fall. Very good doctors that ran the appropriate tests/blood work and gave great advice. They also told it like it is with my condition, why it likely happened, long term management, etc.

I did a mountain of research on my condition as well as the doctors treating me. Their experience and credentials stacked up with their peers, doubtful I could have found better anywhere else, including Denver. This thing called the internet and email and zoom meetings has really leveled the field in health care. The Doctors in Wyoming have access to other doctors in bigger hospitals at literally light speed, and are NOT one bit afraid to send your happy ass elsewhere if they can't manage your condition. The information age is an amazing thing.

It's about catchment areas more than anything, WY/AK, etc just aren't large enough to have a full suite of specialists.

A lot of the conditions folks are talking about on this thread while serious, are not complex nor require a specialist.

To your point rural areas often have some great doctors. I mean Kotzebue has a relationship with Mass General and doctors rotate out there regularly, our landlord does 2-3 months a year. That doesn't mean that the hospital in Kotz can handle everything, lots of patients are sent to Anchorage and then often out to Seattle.

This is really only an issue for retirees that are hitting that age where their health declines, and may not realize that unlike ____ state resources in the west are few and far between.

My only attempt with this line of thought was, hey it's rural, and it's not eastern rural where living in the sticks still means your 45 min from walmart and 2 hours from a big city.

I've been in Cody for 4 months now and love it. More opportunity here for outdoor recreation than you could ever hope to complete in a lifetime. Plus the town itself has alot to do for such a small town. By far my favorite WY town. I would put Sheridan on the list, and Buffalo is nice to.

Get yourself a few hundred acres of premium whitetail hunting property in Michigan, currently 2 bucks plus 10 does a season. an hour or less to the Great Lakes, blue ribbon trout streams such as Pere Marquette, steelhead, salmon, browns. Excellent healthcare, I mean top notch, Just recently got back from my first trip to Wyoming. Hunted antelope, sat in hot springs, did Yellowstone. Saw moose and sheep outside the park, elk in and off the park. Totally wanted to live there for a hot minute, Cody for sure, Thermopolis, Maybe Buffalo, but the distance to for healthcare had me and the wife spooked back to reality

Over the years I have heard lots of downsides to living in Wyo. Low end production values of local news is a new one.
Same thing in most of MT. The news can definitely be cringey to watch, but OTOH you can find high production values in big city news and all they seem to report on are the murders du jour. I'll take the goofy local news in Montana over that, and appreciate it for what it's not.

Shhhh, that’s flyover country. Nothing worth looking at and no game to be had.

They have got to be kidding!
I can name about 1200 towns a LOT more affordable than some listed.
No state income tax and low sales tax make Wyoming attractive. They just picked the 2 largest towns because that's what most people are looking for. The rest of the cities on the list do nothing for me but others might like them.
