I could write forever in this thread. My fifth time in Coffman cove. I have a friend that usually takes me out to the inner passage. This time I wanted to do it myself. I have slways went the second week in July. This time the last week of August. I have most of the halibut beds marked on my OnX from previous trips. On Friday he took us out for halibut and salmon as a warm up. Very slow...only one small halibut.
Saturday we fished the streams. They were filled with pinks and some silvers. We ended up with 16 total. We used spinners.
Sunday more streams and lakes. More pinks and a few silvers. The silver run was just starting.
Monday we rented a 22 foot boat. We went to the marked halibut areas and limited with 6 halibut. Nothing big. We were so proud that we did this on our own. It was a neat experience learning how to pilot a boat that big.... Hawes 220.
Tuesday we went to my Dolly Varden place. There were 6 guys there when we arrived. All fly fishing. The stream was filled with Sockeyes!!! What a neat sight. I caught my first Sockeye on a spinner!!! I later watched the guys fly fishing as the pulled in salmon after salmon. One guy offered to teach me. I have very little experience in casting. Actually I suck at casting. In a minute he improved my technique 100%. I few casts later I caught my first salmon on a fly rod..... what a thrill!!!!
Everyday was fun filled!!!
