Potlatch's 670,000 acres of Idaho forestlands are open to public recreation
With some exceptions and seasonal restrictions, company forestlands are open to the public for a wide range of recreational pursuits. To protect the forest values we all enjoy, the company has established a few simple, common sense guidelines. The guidelines are summarized in an interactive document and can be downloaded in a four-panel brochure from this page. For your convenience, we are also providing a general map of Potlatch's Idaho lands.

You'll need Abode reader to open the brochure.

Read the guidelines.

"Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) use - (Motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile). Vehicles greater than 48 inches in width are prohibited from off-road use on Potlatch timberlands. ORVs must carry fire extinguishers during fire season - May 10 through October 20. ATVs, motorcycles and snowmobiles can be used for game retrieval or other recreation if soil and vegetation disturbance is minimal. Hill climbing, tree cutting and dragging weeds that may release seeds is prohibited. Snowmobilers must avoid plantations where snow compaction and clipping of treetops can damage young trees under the snow. "

"if soil and vegetation disturbance is minimal."

That's where the problem is going to be. Fatassed ATV riders think everything they do is "minimal". The ATV crowd will eventually force Potlatch to close everything down.

I think they put a lot of thought into the matter before they published this brochure. BUT, IT, if you think they messed up feel free to call they guy on the brochure.
:D

Hey Ten,

Doesn't the brochure also say they will be patrolling and or, using private security firms to make sure the Fat-Assed ATV riders comply??

That is funny that a private company has to put out a brochure to tell the Fat-Assed crowd to behave. No chance they would behave on their own???

No, EG, the reason they said they have to hire a private security firm is to keep the 4X4 trucks from going on closed roads, and mud bogging. Maybe you should call Mr. Davis with your concerns as well. I have spoken with him, and Potlatch is a big supporter of ATVs on their road systems, seems their big problems comes from hunters in pickups, not on ATV's.

We all know that a heavy 4x4 full size truck does far more damage than the lighter ATV. seems strange that all we hear about at hunttalk is the ATV`s.

CJCJ, it's like penis envy, the only guys you hear whining about it being a problem, are the ones that lack the appropriate equipment to get the job done.
:D

Hey Ten,
So you are saying the full-sized OFf-Roaders are the problem? And you guys with the little "units" are not the problems??? I ever tell you about my V-10????

But seriously, how come you off-roader/mud bogging/Fat-Assed ATV riders don't all stick together??? First people will be banning Fords and Dodges, then Polaris and Hondas.. Them Anti-s will get you all....

Even Potlatch agrees that there is a difference in the inpack to road systems between full size 4X4's and ATVs. I didn't say anything about the size of the unit (you're the one who brought up the fact that you feel better (more masculine?) with you V-10)
, I said "appropriate equipment" to get the job done.
