I didn't vote, as it is illegal for me to vote in the US. If we can re-post the thread so that it originates in Mexico or Arizona, I can vote....

Could someone please give at least a 1 or 2 line explination of what each opion is ?

I don't know..... thanx in advance.

Moosie,
Those labels are attempts by someone to put labels and classify people into neat little stereotyped boxes, so that they don't require thinking, listening, or understanding by those who do the classifying. Anybody that can clearly define themself so narrowly is a verry limited individual, likely uncapable of individual thought.

I voted in the poll ... even though it didn`t list right wing radical..

Maybe the poll is accurate /maybe not......but i think, actually i know the majority of Americans are more conservative [in general] than liberal .... only when you break down the individual issues [ drugs/illegals/crime/homo`s, etc.] can you see the real difference.

So.. will one ofyou political Know it alls give me 3 examples of what each one would believe in ? Come on, someone here should know ?

"William Safire's New Political Dictionary defines "conservative" literally, as a "defender of the status quo ... who prefers that change come slowly, and in moderation." If we are talking about change from the values of our founding fathers, a conservative would be for the Second Amendment, limited taxes and government, and against abortion. But he would probably want quick and dramatic change from the present high taxes, big government, gun control, and abortion rights. The definition doesn't work anymore.

"Liberal" is even harder to define: classic liberals are in fact, libertarian, while modern liberals are high-tax supporters of bigger government. Safire defines the former as "one who resisted government encroachment on individual liberties" and the latter as "one who believes in more government action to meet individual needs." One could probably get away with being both those things at once, if government action weren't funded by individuals who are forced to contribute.

To add to the confusion, many conservatives believe in more government encroachment on individual liberties, which means bigger government, so go figure.

It's hard to get along without a single word which defines each of our political positions, but the time has come to admit that the words "conservative" and "liberal" don't tell us what we once thought they did"

So I'm guessing I've lost my status as a scholar and statesman??? :D :D

Seriously, I know it is difficult to define people. But, I think, in general, most people think of themselves in one of these categories. I tried to provide as many choices as possible. As I stated in my original post, this isn't for any purpose other than curiosity on my part. To me, someone who is ultra conservative/liberal is someone who believes in those issues with extreme resolve and are unwilling to waver from those beliefs. A conservative/liberal is someone who believes in most of the issues. A moderate conservative/liberal is someone who is mostly down the middle but leans one way or the other, while a true moderate is the ultimate fence sitter (I'm guessing that is you Nut :) )

I KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT AN ACCURATE REFLECTION OF AMERICAN POLITICAL BELIEFS. Once again, because of the amount of political talk that goes on on HuntTalk, I was curious as to what HUNTTALKERS think.
