Pics of My 2004 buck and Managment idea

Brian,

The more I think about this, the more I am against any idea that doesn't allow me to hunt EVERY year. I may not kill something every year, but I at least want to hunt every year. And I want to spend my $100+ on tags and licenses at the IDFG. I also want to buy lots of groceries to go hunting for a week. I want to fill up the SuperDuty with expensive gas, buy lots of soda, cheetos, and pepperoni at the gas stations on my way hunting.

If you tell me, via your plan, that I can't hunt EVERY year, I am going to take my $$$$ and go buy licenses, groceries, and Cheetos in Oregon, or Neveda, or Montana etc...

Right now, we have an Agency that can't afford their obligations now. If you knock 40% of the people out of buying tags every other year, you will completely starve F&G of their ability to meet their obligations.

I am not convinced, either, that there are not plenty of big bucks in Idaho right now. I saw some dandy bucks this summer, all in General areas. You guys may be hurting in SE Idaho, but that is due to the drought, not mis-management. I don't think you want F&G reacting to every storm that comes in.

If you want a problem statement, how about "The IDFG does not have enough money to properly fund their Biological and Enforcement Objectives". Now, if you would put a plan together to solve that problem, you would be a hero to all of Idaho's hunters.

BrianID wrote............I'd be willing to pull the trigger less often if other hunters would and I think a lot of other hunters would agree with me on this statement.

has to start somewhere.......why not with yourself????????????????????

I wasn't trying to pee on anyones cheerios. I still think that it would be a good idea to give hunters an incentive to not pull the trigger often.

dufus,
I don't have any problem with anyone that wants to shoot a meat buck on the last day of the season but I think it would be a good idea to give hunters a reason not to shoot a buck on the last day. Other years I have eaten tag soup instead of pulling the trigger on a smaller buck on the last day and if I haven't filled my tag by the end of the season next year will likely do the same thing again. Like I said earlier the reason I posted this idea with a picture of my little buck was to get you guys thinking. I'm not sure were your from but managing mule deer isn't like managing whitetails on the back 40. Not shooting a buck in Idaho on the last day does very little to increase the chance for that individual killing a buck in the future. Why not reward hunters that are not killing most of the deer? I think that the number of bucks killed in most general season units needs to be reduced and discouraging hunters from shooting a last day/meat buck is the best way to do it. Sitting out a year after killing a deer might not be the best answer but it is the best option that I have seen so far.

JB florida,
I don't think hunters should only get to draw 2 tags every 10 years and if you can find anywhere that I said this feel free to point it out. Go look at post #39 if you want so see what I think about draw hunts. Even if Idaho went to a statewide draw system hunters wouldn't have to wait 5 years to draw a tag unless the units were managed so hunters could drive down the road and shoot a big buck. Kids in Idaho have better hunting opertunities than any other western state that I know of and I hope that the F&G keep up the good work.
