13,968 pounds of trash, was the amount removed by the Arizona hunters who care down in S. AZ this past weekend. They did a great job but there is still TONS of trash out there.

Maybe this coming Spring I can fly Jose down to the next one so he can take a look around. I'm sure you could tevo all your favorite Telemundo programs and make the trip??

Can anyone even Imagine what the desert would look like, if those good people and the Boy scouts and all of the other hunter/patriot groups didn`t get involved.. donating their time and money to help out....

AZ402, Thats Awesome people get involved in Projects like that. I get involved with those up here too.... But to show you and cjcj's prejudice thinking you asume it's all the mexicans. Let me tell you, I've seen more rednecks littering the roads then I have seen Mexicans. More Beotch's in BMW's tossing out a Latte' on the roads......

Once again, Awesome on the Cleanup, but I'll "gong" you on saying it's all just Mexicans. Thats almost as bad as when cjcj was posting that only the ilegal mexicans play loud music and fly their flags i nthe USA. OK, Probly not that close but the same non the less....

Wait, I think I hear Schmalts logging on mow to Call us boyz that don't hate thye Mexicans a #*^@#* wad :D :D :

Moosie...

With all due respect...you have to see that southern desert down there to believe it.

Its a mess, and I'd bet 99% of it is illegals...tons of clothes, plastic water containers, shoes, backpacks, etc. etc. etc.

Now the trashed out deserts near Tucson, Phoenix...thats just plain ol' redneck trash there...refrigerators, old tv's, lawn debris, hefty sacks full of pizza boxes and 40 oz old english bottles, broken pictures of Dale Ernhardt, etc. etc. etc.

Don't be a Hater and blame this on mi hermanos becuase of race. There are TONS of garbage on BLM lands across the West and it has NOTHING to do with hardworking immigrants making our landscaping better, our lettuce picked fresher, and our strawberries ready for my breakfast.

By Benjamin Spillman, USA TODAY
They rise from the Western landscape, but they're not purple mountains.
They're heaping mounds of car parts, furniture, appliances and household trash dumped illegally onto public land in deserts, mountain ranges and streambeds.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) reports they're especially piling up across the American West, where burgeoning cities from Palm Springs, Calif., to Boise are spilling into once pristine landscapes.

"There is hardly a city in the West right now that isn't experiencing significant growth," Felicia Probert, chief ranger of the BLM, said. "Typically, we haven't had the appropriation, the budget strength, to add rangers as these issues grow in the expanding West."

Steve Kilpatrick, a BLM ranger in Las Vegas, one of the nation's fastest growing cities, said, "People are just going out to the desert and dumping stuff. I could take you in an area where there are boats, concrete ... household trash."

In the 2005-06 fiscal year, the cost of cleaning up illegal dumps in the Las Vegas area has added up to $2.8 million, the agency reports.

In April, BLM used front-end loaders, dump trucks and volunteers to haul tons of trash from public land in Payette, Jerome, Ada and Madison counties in Idaho.

Karl Gebhardt, BLM environmental engineer, said a single incident of potentially hazardous material, such as an unidentified drum of liquid, can cost up to $10,000.

Gebhardt said the BLM in Idaho relies heavily on the public to report illegal dumping.

"This is their land. And people are trashing it," he said.

The agency has reported 6,482 illegal dumpsites since 2000, plus another 607 hazardous material cleanups. Most of those have been in the West.

Celia Boddington, spokeswoman for the agency, says it is difficult to come up with a comprehensive estimate of the cleanup cost because of differences in accounting procedures.

The agency figures don't include illegal dumping on private land, which also can cost taxpayers money.

In California alone, illegal dumping on private and public land costs at least $87 million annually, according to an ongoing survey of local governments. The estimate is based on the 61 of 415 city and county governments that have responded to the survey.

"People are really starting to realize what it means in California," said Ken Stuart, who is conducting the survey for the California Integrated Waste Management Board.

In addition to the cleanup cost, there is the threat to public health.

Illegal dumps support rodents and can catch fire and spew toxic smoke.

"Catching people with illegal dumping is just as good as catching people with drugs because of the community impact," said Sgt. George Lee of the Riverside County (Calif.) Sheriff's Department.

Cornering dumpers is difficult because dumping generally happens in remote areas, and proving guilt can require catching the culprit in the act.

In rural areas southeast of Palm Springs, two sheriff's deputies and a support staffer consider illegal dumping a big part of their beat.

On a recent day, the deputies pointed out illegal dumps that were among 20 the team had identified in a region known more for lush golf resorts than environmental hazards.

"There are obviously no residents, no reason to be back here," said Deputy Sean Dusek, at one site where piles of furniture, car parts and yard waste lined both sides of a dirt road.

"You can see the tire tracks. This is a hot dumpsite," Dusek said.

The deputies have experimented with hidden cameras, and they sift through trash piles for clues about the source.

They pick through household trash, construction debris, car batteries, appliances, furniture and landscaping waste for receipts, mail or anything else with a name.

If they identify a name, they find the person, sometimes write them a ticket and tell them to clean up the mess. A county ordinance also allows them to impound a suspect's car for 30 days.

In 2004, California passed a law that increased fines for commercial illegal dumping from $500 to a range between $1,000 and $3,000 for a first offense.

Dusek's partner, Deputy J.C. Garcia, looks at one of the dumpsites and suggests the punishment is justified.

"People come out here for the view. Then they have to look at this," he said

Wow, didn't realize I was posting or have been posting prejudice stuff.:( :( With nephews and nieces with the names Armando, Angelo, Tremaine and Ashiya. I don't have much tolerance for racism, prejudice and what not. I have seen plenty of areas littered by rednecks, yuppies etc.... Unfortunately, the trash pick ups in S. AZ are 99.9% due to illegal immigrant activity (not all Mexicans). It's a scary place to hunt, ask BOHNTR or any of the other guys who have spent time down there. Buzz has seen it, he's been down there more than anyone on this board I'd assume. To call me prejudice doesn't make much sense to me and kind of bums me out............Peace out fellas.........

You're in denial Moosie (or something.)

Why don't you just go down there and see it for yourself. Maybe then you'll believe it. These guys aren't making this stuff up.

Have to call you out on this one Mooseman….Buzz and AZ4 are spot on this issue! I’ve had to travel down to some of those areas to look at proposals with SRP (Salt River Project) and was fuggin AMAZED at the trash. We are not talking your latte flippers nor your Billy Bob’s here (separate problem-separate issue) we’ve all got a-holes flipping out their 12oz reflectors on our public lands but this is mass transit garbage dumping! You don’t have much of a problem finding the migration corridors down in AZ and, though there is no easy solution to the problem, to compare it to cheap assed contractors dumping their concrete out off the Vegas city limits is a joke….and (to borrow a popular HuntTalk phrase) that’s a fact!

Other fact is that Stan brings as much or more to this board as anyone and its pretty much bullchit to pull out a race card and tell him he doesn’t know what’s going on in his own backyard….kinda like me telling you about property values in Boy-Zeeeee!

Marv,
It has nothing to do with calling out Stan. We already decided his opinions are 10 times more valid than the Hater Schmaltz' opinions, cuz AZ402 kills big chit, while Schmaltz baits in little whitetail does to shoot. AZ has scoreboard.

That being said, if you read the other article, it is clear that our public lands are dumping grounds ALL over the place, in one area we can blame hardworking undocumented migrant labors, in another area we can blame NASCAR fans, in another area we can blame welfare ranchers, in another area we can blame HUNTERS who insist on bring washing machines with them to use to hang their targets for sighting in their new Weatherby.

If you want to get rid of the litter in the AZ desert, just allow an easier path for our country to get our labour force into the country via nice highways, nice trains from Tijuana, nice bus terminals on both sides of the border. Instead of making people carry water bottles thru the desert, allow them to ride on Air conditioned buses across the border to provide us the labour force we need to run our leaf blowers, our dishwashers, our lettuce packing machines, our insulation crews, etc.

Solve the problem, not the symptom.

It has nothing to do with calling out Stan.

It wasn't.... and I did Say that, I was Wrong and I'll admit it. His post had nothing "personally" to do with Prejudice. Just a Thank you for picking up the ground. Leaning towards Joses freinds but not saying it really. Although with the descriptions of you guys it sounds like most is. I get sucked in after reading so many ..."SLANTED Opinion" posts that I lump people in with others without realising it.

I jsut did what I tease you guys about doing all the time, Lumping people (Mexicans) in with the rest (Illegals). Difference is, You pointed it out and I admitted it. I point it out every day and you guys still deny it :p

Stan, My bad !!

On the AZ issue, It's sure it's Chitty. I don't know how bad it is. If you look at Jose's post :

All that is True. HAteing Jose or not, if someone argues that post they are truely an Idiot. I hunt in the Sawtooths in an Area that people have no problems leaving coke cans, candy bar wrappers, Cigeretts, Etc all laying around. If I was to Bitch about it I guess I hate the Hunters. The WHITE ones.... I'll say it "I HATE WHITE HUNTERS AND I ADMIT IT" :D

OK, I'm heading to Utah to see if they have Trash in their hills....... See ya Monday !!!

Well now that the group hug is over.....good luck in Utah Moosie! ;)

Jose agree that BOTH are problems- fact is one of my favorite "sighting in" areas on BLM property was shut down just for that reason last year...too many TV sets and beer bottles being popped and spent casings- dumpster was even provided for peoples chit but ended up being just another "target".
I've chewed more than one ass out in that area but it can get a bit dicey with everyone armed.....now it's closed to ALL.

One difference I see is that with the red-necked locals (besides needing their collective asses kicked) a good healthy fine plus community service hours in an orange jump suit might disway it a bit...with the southern labor force it's a bit more complicated as they are here illegally to begin with.

Regarding bringing them in via public transit, what are you going to do about the coyotes whose income you will displace? Can't solve one problem w/out creating another ;) Hate to see the smugglers have to go on unemployment just because we want easier access to our workforce...all sarcasm aside and getting back on topic, it's a mo-fo of a problem (the trash) and is having a big impact on some great hunting areas....now Vegas? Unless you're hunting for lost hookers at the city limits, it's ugly but IMHO, a different kind of issue!

By the way....first basketball game tonight, tourneys the next three weekends- how is Lil' Gunner doing this year?

Chit MarvB, I can't tell if your Hugging or kicking in that post ;)

Thanx for the Well Wishe's, I'll let ya know..............

It just seems that the 13k pounds of trash the AZ hunters carried off is pretty small compared to the amounts the BLM is having to haul off from other places. TV sets and PC monitors are danged heavy and hard to haul off after the CRT has been shot. I am glad that AZ's boys are cleaning an area they care about INDEPENDENT of who brought the trash. I wish that more hunters would clean our public lands of the trash they haul out and of the cattle grazing.

Why just the other day, I was in some Timber areas elk hunting, and I found all these orange, blue/white ribbons tied to trees and to metal spikes in the ground. I couldn't believe somebody would litter like that, so I picked up all the ribbons and spikes I could find, just to clean up the forest..... :D

Girlgunner has her first schoolball game on Monday, and she has also made a "college exposure" travelling team that she will play next spring/summer. I am not sure what the outcome of playing in front of college recruiters before ever taking a high school class is, but that seems to be the trend, and it willl provide her some good training and additional time on the court. The LittlestGunner has her first middle school ball game on Tuesday, without the talent/skill/committment of her older sister.....;) Not sure what to expect, but I am sure there will be a few "priceless memories" created.....:D

Hey ****wad.. go kill something in UT, good luck. You just been blessed with good luck by someone who only kills little shit over a food plot. God i love killing bambi's mommy, its like venting frustration by pretending i am popping slimy illegals littering my hunting grounds down in Sasabe.

Nice pile of meat Schmalts!... Cool to see Buzz being so honest,i can tell he`s seen alot of the border... Moosie Dude your getting paraniod [is it my fault?] You need to understand that the word is "illegal" not Mexicans....50% of Latino Americans are sick of illegal immigration and all of the problems that come with the illegal movement.

But Why make comparisons between Rednecks and other litterbugs?,, Fact is if an American leaves trash they can, will be procecuted for being a shithead pig, [if caught]... We will always have a certain amount of scumbag shitbag litterbugs who could care less about the environment.... Why add Millions more to society?....Doesn`t make any sense to me to "make excuses" for the illegal rats who trash the desert, by saying well its OK because others do it.

If I see anyone trashing the land, I will burn their ass.

But illegals get a free ride on littering.
