Here is a pic of a bull my buddy shot yesterday on the apache reservation here in arizona. I guess they glassed him up and shot him at 314 yards. They actually passed him up a few days ago while looking for another bull that was bigger. He scored 397" and is a 8x8 with a 9th kicker. the pic does not do justice for this bull but I thaught I would share some horn porn

He passes that bull up waiting for a bigger one! Sheesh! Man, my standards for my upcoming hunt are wayyyyyyy lower than that!

That is a dandy bull for sure. Tell your buddy congrats on an extremely successful hunt!

Yeah he has already illed some real dandy bulls in the past so he was holding out for a bull that went 400+ to pull the trigger on. It was killed on the fort apache res saturday. I posted it was killed yesterday but that when I got the pics.

My dad is heading up to the same area in 2 weeks and I hope I can post some more horn porn to share with you guys.

Well, Larry asked me to let you guys in on the story behind my dad's bull so here it goes:
It was a trophy bull tag on the White Mountain Res and was killed this past Saturday. We had hunted for about a week, and the biggest bull we had seen was about 385. Pops wanted to hold out for a 400" bull. The guy has more patience than anyone i've ever hunted with, so it was 400 or nothing. We walked away from several bulls with me just shaking my head. On the 7th day we glassed this bull up at about 1500 yards with about 45 minutes of light left. We guessed him about 400, and might have been able to get in on him in time, but we wern't real sure on the score since his points were short. For the third time in the hunt i told my dad "I don't know how you don't kill that bull." The next day and a half we chased a really good 6x6 that might have outscored this bull, but the crafty SOB kept slipping out on us. Then on the morning of the 9th day, we ran into this bull again, only this time at 300 yards so we were able to get a better guess on his score. Pops finally decided to pull the trigger, and some bugling and branch breaking got him out of his bed, and dad made a great shot to take him. Really a unique bull, i don't know if i've ever seen a typical 8x8 before. I got the whole thing on video, including when we passed on him, so i'll try to figure out how to post that as well. As a side note, the rains didn't come soon enough to help the elk this year it seems. A lot of the bulls we saw had great fronts but weak 3rds and 5ths. One guy in camp killed a 6x with 27" fronts, but 9" 3's and 5's. And as of Saturday, the rut was not even close. We saw several groups of smaller bulls still together. The elk were bugling, but just to keep tabs on one another; not really challenging at all. Hope you guys enjoyed the story and the pics.
