Can't find another thread and not sure how many Hunt Talkers would be aware of this issue, but I'm bringing it to the fore. The recent executive action:
Places a pause on all federal granting activity effective as of 5pm today. This includes all grants that originate from federal agencies. So why is this important to us here? Well it prohibits ALL grant spending from any previously awarded grants, precludes the award of new grants until a review of unknown duration is completed and oversteps congressional appropriations and oversight. That includes payments for habitat work, land purchase, payments to graduate and undergraduate students, researchers who are employed by grant money, and affects our various associations that work together with federal grant funds to enhance wildlife habitat, etc. So this is going to affect wildlife biologists, the university community and everyone else who does good work to help conserve the places and animals we enjoy recreating in and hunting. I would strongly urge you to consider contacting your member of congress or the senate, to share your viewpoint on the impact this may have on our and other communities.

Note: A federal judge has stayed implementation for a week, but its not clear whether this stay will hold.

They are going to go through the list of those projects receiving money and decides which ones he likes and which ones he doesn't, or cross-reference to the donation list I presume. Not very democratic, but whatever. This is the game plan under Project 2025.
Except that the president has no authority over congressionally authorized appropriations under the separation of powers. If elected officials in the congressional branch choose to pass such legislation or requirement, that is their right, but the executive should not be able to do so on a days notice.

Regardless of which party you support, previously authorized spending should not be subjected to line item review. I predict this one will not withstand legal challenge.
But many programs will default and shutter in the months/years it takes to ultimately wind up with SCOTUS if the justice system is ultimately what settles it.

Last year California Waterfowl helped us secure $40,000 in NAWCA funding for a habitat improvement project in our duck club. We're more efficient with water, and we have better habitat for ducks. We're also committed to maintaining wetlands for the next 30 years.

NAWCA is on the list, I wonder how many potential projects are going to be held up this year? The third image below is an area we couldn't flood before and we were able to get water on an additional 20 acres through this grant funding.

I know you are being funny. Take a second to look up the California State Water Project. Agriculture and Cities get the lion's share of the water in California. The water that Los Angeles County is screaming for was never theirs. They stole it.

A man with a gun may take your wallet, but a man with a brief case will take your future.

It’s probably not the end of the world, but don’t let that stop you.
Every state gets millions of federal excise taxes ....PR and DJ funds...to manage Fish and game in their states.

4O million in my state.

Gonna be some cuts to seasons, OR this is a HUGE gift to the antis. Opens the door to lawsuits against hunting seasons that have a better chance of succeeding.

Ain't this fun?

Myself and others have spent dozens of hours over the last few months applying for and being awarded an EPA Brownfields Grant for a historic building in the town I grew up in to abate asbestos and lead paint in the basement. It’s funny, when I was a child I ate my lunch in there for school, and now people aren’t allowed to use it. We are excited to make it acceptable for community use again. I just read an article that said Brownfield grants would be affected by this.

I and others have used personal leave from my job to make meetings, let bidders into the building, etc. Writing grants, jumping through the hoops. We’ve received bids, have the public comment meeting in the papers and coming up soon. We’ve yet to select a bidder.

Volunteers, professional staff, bidders from private business - have they all wasted their time?

This whole thing seems sloppy as hell.

We receive a few federal grants for special weed control projects that are now in limbo. I do not think it is right for previously awarded grants to be subject to this IMO. We are small potatoes compared to others. There is a lot of work that goes into these projects help from lots of different people, small businesses that are banking on doing some contractual work etc. To possibly pulling the rug seems very unfair and unjust IMO. i get there is waste spending in our government and things should be looked at closer but pulling the rug on money already allocated to projects doesn't seem right.
