Hey guys,
I thinking about possibly getting a smaller pack to use as an alternate to my Metcalf for when I don't need that much space..... Does anyone else do that? Sometimes for day hunts or when scouting or otherwise in the woods when I don't need a big pack it seems like a smaller one might be handy.

I'm considering a MR pop up or maybe something else, anyone have recommendations OR does anyting think that is silly and to just use my Metcalf for all of the above even when I don't need that much space.

Thanks!
Fin

I have the pintler, and IMO it is a perfect day pack, maybe a little on the big size, but presses down great if you have empty space. The kicker is, you can get the bag only version and just swap it with your metcalf on the same frame.

I've got the MR 3 Day Assault bag and the Arcteryx Assault Pack 30 as day packs. The MR is a bit heavy for a day pack- but tough as, Hell. Neither of them is perfect but both are good. I too have been thinking about pulling the trigger on the Pop-up.
When you find the perfect day pack, let me know!

I sold my Metcalf and bought a Pintler.
Just felt the Metcalf was over sized, liked the space but felt it was too heavy.
I hunted the Pintler and knew instantly it was the right hunting pack. It has better features IMO.

You can get the mule bag to use on your frame.

I wouldn't give up that frame for anything. If you're out hunting and get something down you could still pack it out.
I kind of looked at that also, i will look in to it again. I love the frame and the ability to pack out so that would be a good option. Thanks

Fyi..my buddy helped me pack out a deer this year with his Pintler...worked great.
So much so I went out and bought one.😁

The Pintler is a hair under half the capacity of the Metcalf, so i am wondering if there is enough difference to make it worthwhile.

Definately not an overnight pack. But for a day trip with the ability to expand to drop a quarter in on the shelf it gets a load out on the first trip.
What I like about it is its compact enough to not inhibit while hunting, has better storage organization and access.
Here is the kicker...normally $475...now on sale at Shedhorn Sports in Ennis for $308.
Nothing but an opinion.
