Looking to do a cow elk hunt in NW WY in 2025. I've started researching and I know they'll all busy right now, so plan to start contacting after Jan 1. Just hoping to find others' recommendations on an outfitter to use for a cow elk hunt. Thank you.

Why NW part of the state for a cow? The experience with grizz maybe?
Lots of cow hunts all over the state.
Friend who's going with me, his dad lives in Cody, so we were gonna pay a visit and hang out. So figured I'd look for an outfitter nearby. Trust me, the proximity to YS and added grizzly factor does not appeal to me. BUT...gives me an excuse to buy a 10 mm! ha ha ha

Cody is pretty much dead center. Should be able to find a cow elk hunt around there

What Kinda Cow hunt you want? Wilderness? Hayfield? Early season?, Late season? Type 6 tag or full price? Experience or Tag out ASAP?

Check out the WYOGA page pick a region, start googling the members listed...

Thank you very much for this info. I've just started researching, but something that has some challenge would be preferred as I would also prefer to bow hunt. I'd be going for a week. Early season would also be preferred, but I've been told by one outfitter that cow hunts don't start until December. That doesn't seem to jive with what I've read in the WY regs, but I'll continue doing my homework and will call other outfitters. Given that all are out in the field, I plan to start reaching out right before xmas and/or the first week of January so I can apply before the end of January.

Mmm yes, The Centimeter is The Way. Let us know what you pick up.

Outfitters probably don't do their cow hunts until late, after their bull hunters.
Season may well be open but finding an early season cow hunt may be iffy with an outfitter.

Cow hunts are easier in December once the herds move to the winter grounds.

Outfitters are running bull hunts for way more money now. Some tags eventually change over to cow only

Yes, as others have said, there are definitely cow hunts open during archery season, but it's unlikely you'll find an outfitter that will bowhunt cows with you. Otherwise, most outfitters take cow hunters with pretty good success during the later season. If you go DIY, I'd recommend going during late October or November. I think the sweet spot is after the rifle bull seasons are over but before December rolls around and everyone remembers they have a late season cow tag. Lots of guys are out hunting the last few weekends.
