Absolutely crazy.

I have struggled to sell piglets for 50 dollars at times. People want me to deliver, take payments, all of kinds of issues.

I was told $1k for angus bottle calves in Idaho a few weeks ago. Live cattle at $2,500.

I’m glad I have cheap 2 elk and 2 mule deer in my freezer.

that'd be a first...never tried to justify hunting as a cheaper way to get meat as it just doesn't work out.

My WY NR cow elk tag was $288 in the draw. Easier to make the math math at $288.

Yeah that's the Type 6 reduced price or whatever they are...agreed those are a steal....but I don't think many of those go into leftover?

At this point in the calendar the OP might only have full price cow tag options in secondary draw or leftovers?

My crew picked up some of the leftover full price cow tags last fall

I'm not sure bc I'm not in the game this year...more focus on bird hunting for me this fall!

I took a peek at the steaks at Costco two days ago, that’s all I could afford.

I just had 2 fat steers butchered. They averaged 1715# live weight. The feedlot sent me a closeout and said they were worth $3600/head. $2800 butchering costs. I had my cost to raise them for 17 months and $1000 in feed at the feedlot. $2500 for half a beef is right on. Baby calves are $1000+ in western SD. A load of 488#steers sold locally last week for $2237/head.

My blood is only at a slight simmer as I just failed to draw the Montana combo for the second year in a row. I should have done zero points last year, but didn’t know the 0 point trick until it was too late. I can’t wrap my mind around how I didn’t draw this year. In the words of the pirate character in the movie Dodgeball, “GAR!”

So, I am searching for ideas to fill the freezer. I’m in Washington, but will travel. I have my general permits in Washington, and will be putting in for special permits here.

Any ideas for meat hunts?

Find someone with some land with critters and tags and trade something for it. Like a trade your in or something.

I’d take a nice fishing trip to Alaska definitely a way to fill the freezer with some fresh salmon and halibut

I’ve tried with elk to no avail. I do have multiple spots elk pass through, but no resident herds.

Not that long ago bottle calves weren't bringing much. Holstien bull calves were getting knocked in the head.
