I put in for this tag assuming I'd get an extra point but ended up getting selected. Anyone ever hunt this one or in that area? I'd love to know if there are elk up there between October and March....
I see success in the harvest report but also see less than half the tags available claimed to hunt. Wondering if success means pay to trespass.

I've not had that tag, but I have been on a couple of hunts just to the east of there. I would guess the situations are similar. Elk are present, but they range widely, and finding them in all that country can be tough. One of those hunts where you could go out without a tag and find a herd standing next to the highway, but then you go hunt hard for two weeks straight and never see a single elk.

I'm sure alfalfa pivots are the main food source, so finding a spot to ambush them coming off pivots in the morning might be your best bet. I would definitely call the district biologist and see if they have any recent reports of elk in the alfalfa. You may or may not get permission to access private, but you might get some ideas where to glass and ambush.

In my mind, this is not a great tag for someone coming from some distance away. On the other hand, if you live in he hunt area, waiting for a cow to be in your neighbor's alfalfa field would likely put meat in the freezer.
