Oregon Coast Range Cow Hunt

Congratulations on your wet adventure today. I bet it felt good to figure out how to pull her up to the road

hunting in logging country here in OREGON there is so many roads old and new , we vary rarely have to cut , qtr and pack out, some times we can get access to a chainsaw wench, they can pull an elk out of most holes, today we got lucky where we found her

Congratulations!

Really enjoyed the write up and pictures.

I love that you still hunt with your Mom and Dad.

Nicely done on what appears to be a huge cow!

I will try to get the hanging weight when we take it to the butchers , i think we're gonna take her Saturday or Sunday, I work Saturday, so I will try to get that info from the folks if they do

Pretty amazing how big bodied those Roosevelts get!!

What I've always herd people say out here in the coast range , is the Roosevelt Elk are bigger bodied than the Rocky Mtn Elk and The Rocky Mtn Elk get bigger antlers than Roosevelt Bulls , But I have no idea if that really true or it's just an old wives tale, that's told out here because we're in Roosevelt country.

The folks took the Elk in this morning , it was weighed in at 361 lbs so I'm guessing she was 700 or more pounds before she died, I've only been hunting elk for 3 seasons now , this is my 2nd , don't know what avg weights are or what to compare with , I do know this female is 120 or so pounds heavier than my dads spike bull back on Nov 20th , can't remember exact weight believe it was between 220 to 230 after cleaned and hung when taken in to butchers

My dad was telling 6 or 7 years ago before I started hunting again they got a cow that's was close to dbl the size of mine , don't know never saw it, I've been told Rosie's can get to 1000 on the hoof , but this is also just what I've herd, my friends who have hunted Rosie's for a long time , think she is between 3 to 4 years old, I can say when I was out with dad the day he got his spike , we had 4 cows cross a 200 yard meadow 300 yards or so from us and the lead cow was TWICE as big as the 3 cows following, we all looked at each other with wide eyes , we were like holy dam that was big !!

So I have to ask. How do you not know if it's Mt. St. Helens? It's the only one without a top....

Ha ha ha ha !!! Ya I know , but I can't name all are mountains around here in the NW, its been awhile since I've seen it , i hunted the same area during BlackTail season and never saw it , so when i saw it last week , it took a second to register, so rather than speak like a know it all , I just choose to err with caution rather than stick my foot in my mouth on a national web site  i made that mistake earlier this summer when i mis spoke about Oregon Wolves , I ain't going down that road again if i can help it

Haha I hear. Just giving you a hard time. I grew up about 40 miles from St. Helens so I know it fairly well

The Turner Clan has completed their Oregon Coast Range Cow Hunt !!! Thanks for following along everyone and all the great comments, it was a lot of fun
