We put the least effort into this years hunt in all of our years archery elk hunting. Typically, we are setting cameras and scouting starting early July. This year however, I found out I needed a pacemaker and I was in no condition to be hiking hard until I got one implanted. On August 23, I finally had that surgery done and exactly one week later on opening morning I called this bull in for my wife to 25 yds. This was the first set up on a bull of the year and she made a perfect shot and he expired within 50 yds. It's good to be lucky! I was limited to lifting 10 lbs so aside from pulling a leg out of the way so she could skin it, she did all the work and packed half of it out. thankfully, I had some close friends nearby that came to help pack the rest.
