Good retort, but gravity doesn’t expend joules, it merely distorts the space time continuum. So 99% of the joules spent in diving are by the divers. That’s like saying 99%+ of diving is done by gravity….

Let's just add sports. Maybe chainsawing, log rolling, axe throwing, etc. Or boarding and jumping from a moving commuter train? Should equal the playing field a little. India is the most populous country in the world and only ended with a handful of medals.I too am distrustful of "judged" events, but there are too many essential classics, such as gymnastics and figure skating that I can't let that be a driving criteria for me.
As for the vagaries of olympic rules I counter cite the Munich olympics men's gold medal basketball game. Not just "judged" sport are subject to shenanigans and error.
Packing folks into a train/subway car would be a guaranteed medal for the Japanese.Let's just add sports. Given recent election challenges around the world lately maybe "poll watching" could be oneLet's just add sports. Maybe chainsawing, log rolling, axe throwing, etc. Or boarding and jumping from a moving commuter train?
Add one for line ditching and the Europeans would rule.Packing folks into a train/subway car would be a guaranteed medal for the Japanese.
Travel a day or two in New Delhi or Mumbai and you’ll realize there is big competition for the gold.Packing folks into a train/subway car would be a guaranteed medal for the Japanese.
Watch Fox Business and you will see the same competition for that gold. I even had someone at Costco trying to pawn an oz to me yesterday.Travel a day or two in New Delhi or Mumbai and you’ll realize there is big competition for the gold.
May very well be the only sport 16yo boys care to watch
Not closeThey can get that need filled with most of the women track stars.
To be fair, 16 yr old boys can get that need filled by just about anything. But track doesn’t hold a candle to volleyball on visual appeal. Not close
Normally I’d agree on volleyball above track but not this year. Track had some exceptionally beautiful women. Not close
The joules/watt/hp rabbit hole is an interesting perspective.Good retort, but gravity doesn’t expend joules, it merely distorts the space time continuum. So 99% of the joules spent in diving are by the divers.

If you want your head to hurt on a Monday . . .The joules/watt/hp rabbit hole is an interesting perspective.
You would really love the 1912-1948 Olympics then, as painting, sculpture, architecture, literature and music were also endeavors that were awarded gold, silver and bronze.Anything that has judges can go IMO. Everything is subjective. Put them in the X games or whatever. Probably a hot take because it gets rid of gymnastics and diving (even boxing is debatable) but I stand by the opinion.
Appeals of subjective scores, reversals of reversals, and appeals of reversals. I rest my case.
