Oh, the irony!

9,000 acres damn near continously just a few miles south of me slotted for solar farms. Talk about completely changing the landscape there. Yikes.
But it is 14 squares of Illinois, not 30,000+ squares of Alaska. It matters.

Who owns (and what is) the land?

It's private, you already knew that. Can't wait to see what it looks like when the subsidies run out and the Chinese solar companies fold up. We'll see what's left there. Good news is there's several landfills close by for all the panels someday I guess. 🤷‍♂️ Just because I'm not in favor of solar and wind doesn't mean I want oil rigs everywhere, necessarily. But it's pretty hypocritical for us to turn a blind eye as we fuel up everyday, or light the stove etc.

I’m not sticking up for drilling in ANWr at all, but you are being misleading with your numbers. oil and gas development is small pads scattered across the landscape. In that 30,000+ squares there would be development, but it would be spread out from development to development, easily 100s of miles apart. Again, I’m not for development in ANWR and think it would be best as a reserve as it is now because we have other areas that could be or are developed with potential to produce enough oil for our needs. What Nick is referring to is a scorched earth, solid solar fields. I am for private property rights so if that’s what the landowner wants to do, good for him. But large scale solar fields and wind farms on public, no.

And all that spreading out only ruins more land. If you think the impact is simply the size of the pad, well...

More energy in any form, is not a sustainable answer. But that is another discussion.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the energy stuff much. Drill baby drill sounds great on the campaign trail, but with O&G prices where they are, no one is interested in ANWR leases (similar to 2020, below) because of the cost. Renewable tax credits have been around for almost 20yrs and big projects on public have been approve by Trump before. Solar and wind will continue as it mostly benefits the rural states/areas and we continue to make more of that hardware in the US. I hope nuclear is the major focus, which I think was VG's point. Nuclear is quite rural as well. The problem there is it is a slow process. We have to find the line between speeding regulatory approval and cutting corners and not cross it.

All this assumes that the people put in charge have enough sense to figure it out. I have less faith in that every day that passes.

I’ve tried to state very clearly several times I’m not for development in AnWr. I am for using the oil and gas pads that are already developed but sit idle across North Dakota, Wyoming and western Colorado.

Conservation = wise use of natural resources.

Nuclear isn't as easy for the politicians to skim off the top. Don't see then in a hurry to speed it up anytime soon.
Lots of NIMBY to wade through. But also lots of aging nuclear in your area that could use some help. Curious as to where 9000 acres of solar is going in IL. That seems like a lot for the area.

Trump will listen to businesses. It is the one benefit of his transactional beliefs. He will still rant about windmills in front of a camera while signing off on wind farms on BLM in private. And his core supports won't care because they won't even be paying attention.

Just south of me. At first rumors were it was coming up around my place. I'd of had a choice then get divorced and move or stay married and live in an industrial complex setting.

well, you should be happy that our new "leader" will fire them all shortly.

As for the costs of ANWR, he can and quite possibly will offer subsidies to get them drills a spinning.

Missed “gen”. Meaning we will regret not focusing on next gen nuclear with hindsight after we flood the world with solar panels and wind farms. (And send all our $$$ to china in the process).

"next gen" has been a pipe dream for 40 yrs or more. It shows no sign of changing despite all the hoopla that comes and goes over one reactor style or another, or even "cold fusion" that comes and goes with hemlines. I'm all for it as long as you keep the waste under your bed.

Actually, I am not all for it, regardless of the unavoidable waste factor. I cannot imagine a more bleak future for the planet than limitless energy in the hands of humans.

More energy is not the answer.

The pipe dream has been realized.

Gen IV nuclear plants are in construction and there are plans for more.
