****OFFICIAL****2024 SPRING BEAR THREAD

View attachment 326576Nothing but sows and cubs for me lately. Kinda cool to see one with triplets though, I don’t believe I’ve seen that in my area before.
Boy that top picture has some griz characteristics too it. Big hump and really chunky to be a blacky sow. I think griz tend to have triplets more than blacks. Not saying it is for sure but looks suspect to me

Totally agree. I’ve got some digiscoping footage that show her head a little better, and it’s more black bear shaped. Always a chance it was a dark griz, but I’m leaning black bear on this one.

Love seeing pics of bears. I think it would be helpful to say general location(approximately 15 miles east Afton wy or South east Wy) and elevation and any other useful information like skunk cabbage just starting to bloom. This thread could help over time have some useful info instead of 15 pages and like 3 bears. I check this thread everyday so don't get me wrong when I say that one of my favorite ones each year and a few of you who write up really good hunt stories with pics of the total hunt experience. I live vicariously through this thread because I can't find anyone from mid west to go out and hunt bears with me. If you aren't a serial killer contact me I can go 10 days starting this week Thursday at 5:30 from Columbus Ohio and all of memorial day week and next weekend.

Just got home from a week in Alberta. Shot a couple of nice boars and had a great week.

Bear #1

This was the first bear I saw on my first night and I watched him for an hour before deciding to shoot. Glad I did as he was bigger than I thought.

Bear #2

Shot this bear on the last night. He was the 14th bear I saw this week. We had two days of heavy rain/snow that made for very little bear movement. Super fun week regardless.

Congrats bear number 1 has a good noggin on him

New to the forum, figured my first post would be the bear I just got back home with. Drew the tag for Prince of Wales in AK and had my first ever "western" hunt. What an adventure! Can't wait to do it again... not a giant by any means but it is my first bear and the only one we saw on the trip so I was thankful to take him.

Congrats on your first bear! Surprised you only saw the one bear. The one time I hunted Prince of Wales there seemed to be bears everywhere. Did you hunt the road system or have access to a boat? Glad you got one!

That was my thought too! I'm sort of expecting to see 3-5 bears a day based on our last trip but maybe things have changed...

Hunted with a skiff on the north side of the island. I think the north side was more scarce, I talked to some hunters on the way back home and they said they only saw two bears and they hunted Whales pass for 8 days. They didn’t get a shot on either and left empty handed.

Wow! That is very surprising. With a skiff you can cover alot of country. Sure glad you got your bear. Congrats!
