***OFFICIAL*** 2023 SPRING BEAR THREAD

Leaving Sunday for 4 days. Hoping to just see a bear and if it’s mature shoot it. I’m still a super green bear hunter so passing a sow will be difficult for me. But I don’t think the quota ever gets filled in the unit I’m going in. I will take pics! Absaroka wilderness!

I sent an email into Shawn about why the entirety of the beartooth is one district. They should be able to split that into two or 3 districts even.

Hell a guy can't even get into the shit where some of the bigger bears would be found.
Would be nice to see it split up I had a couple spots I wanted to hike into that I don’t think I could access before the season closed

I got an email back from them yesterday. I don't know a lot of the bio's but the few I have talked to Shawn and Justin are two of the best I've personally had conversation with and they have tried to come up with an answer for the backcountry stuff.

They're just unable to do so with the sow quotas.

And it doesn't sound like the mother ship is very supportive of it either, they want less districts that are bigger not smaller and more districts🤷‍♂️. The reference of the DEA district changes in 2020 is a reflection of that.

Oh well, time to go find one somewhere else.

The bears have been hammering my bait but can't hunt until next weekend. One more trip bait trip this weekend and hopefully hit the blind Friday...

One Okay chocolate and a big blackie are on top of my list! Also got a big mama with a couple year old cubs who will hopefully ditch them soon and bring more big boys to the yard! 🤩

YES!!!!! Are those your hounds? That's $*)Q!#@$ awesome!
Half are my hounds and half are my buddies that I hunt with alot. If you want to read the whole hunt, look at valle vidal spring bear hunt. Kinda did a live hunt type deal. I'm so freaking pumped. Can't believe I shot such a nice boar and passes another big boar the first day. Glad I did now

I'll check it out, have always wanted to go on a dry land hunt for bears. The guys I run with here haven't had much interest in trying maybe next year

I've never spot and stalk hunted bear. Something I definitely wanna do sometime. Maybe if I put in for the bear archery hunt at the state park by raton I will get it done. Can't use dogs in there
