Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Surrounding Advice

I posted something similar in the Fireside forum before I saw this section, Admins feel free to delete the other post if needed.

A friend found out he will be moving to Maine, which obviously has us interested in any hunting opportunities up that way. I know New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are close to him but don’t know anything about Canada, much less hunting in Canada. With him being in driving distance, hunting up there would make getting meat home or pre-hunt scouting a lot easier. We would prefer to do semi guided or self guided style hunts and dont have deep pockets for high dollar hunts. We are really hoping for some backpacking/backcountry hunts. Can anyone give us a little direction? Are there public land opportunities in Canada in areas within 12hrs of Maine? Thanks for any advice!

unless I am wrong, the only Provence that an alien can hunt Canada without a guide(or resident friend acting as a guide) is Ontario.

I am living in NY for over 20 years. I was born just out side of Fredericton NB Canada. Maine is 3 hours give or take from there. I own a camp there and go back often as I can. You need a guide there as a couple found out one year at the border crossing. I love going back there to ATV. And hope to go hunting deer next season. There are a lot of bears to hunt. Not a bear hunter myself. Ever time I set up a deer feeder the bears find it and live right under it lol. I have my guides license in case a friend here in NY wants to go for a hunt some year.
