I don't remember the exact year, but I believe it was in the early to mid 90's, and IIRC came about with the inception of Block Management.

Block was established in 85, with the changes and outfitter welfare tags being added in 95 with funding dedicated to Block & other conservation & access programs.

If this isn’t enough evidence for our society to finally demand a third party then I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.

Well now, even though this chit gets people full of anxiety and hurts deep down, you really can't let it cut into your soul. This too will pass like a really tough bowel movement from to much chief chockem arse cheese pizza.

WI, the web site of mine you put up is only about 20 years old and has had Zero changes made to it in recent times. Nice attempt at more hype.

Could this tidbit be providing a glimpse into what may be deeper issues with your marketing strategy that perhaps is leading to having issues securing an adequate amount of clientele to sustain your operation?

huh? I personally do not do any social media(one of my guides takes care of facebook), and do not really care about the website, and haven't looked at it in years(i have a guy who hunts with me put new pics up occasionally).

So, while I appreciate your concern about my marketing and having an adequate amount of clientele, allow me to assuage your concerns:). I am currently booking people into the years 2022-2023.

So either, you have a website that is two decades outdated, giving false info, which would automatically turn me and many like me away to your competitors, you don’t have enough businesses and need the state to set some aside for you, because you’re unwilling to be modernize your business strategy.

Or

Despite not lifting a finger to advertise, the market is so hot, you’re booking two years out- but you still need handouts from big daddy gov’t.

You’ve talked yourself into a bit of a circle here.

So you don’t need the welfare then?

But it make business so easy when things are guaranteed to you. I wish I could start a business and have the government guarantee me 60% of the client base, sh*t I would even be happy with a 39% "just because I am a decent guy"

It’s somewhat laughable on the day this bill passes out of committee Ellsworth’s weekly column he writes in the Bitterroot Star comes out titled
“GOP fighting to reduce government”

A bill, that if passes actually increase government. SB 143 overturns CI161 which did actually reduce government. SB143 adds even more heavy handed government with outfitter welfare tags while stiffing the DIY NR hunter.

You really can’t make this stuff up.
Amen. Someone else posted something a while back about the irony of a bunch of MAGA hat-wearing outfitters lining up with hat in hand, literally, to go in front of the fish and game committee to ask for a govt handout so they can continue making money on an outdated business model in an industry oversaturated with service providers.

I didnt think outfitters and their anti socialism clientele would ever be for participation trophies and govt handouts. Looks like a bunch of hypocrites who subscribe more to the "Do as I say not as I do" way of living than the hard working and earn everything you get.

My 2yo and 4yo already know life isn't fair and you have to work for what you get and even than nothing is guaranteed. Surprised grown adults can't figure that out.

The number of non-residents applying for license steadily increased under Trumps PNow the outfitting community is seeking a way to stabilize business by having a license.

If in fact it’s true that you are booking hunts that far out with a 20 year old website and not paying attention to social media why does the outfitting community need stabilize?

Seems more stable than most Montana businesses to be able to book that far out.

tjones, IF? Were it not true I would not have said it, IF you are not questioning my integrity let me know, otherwise I am apt to take it that way.

On to your question.

Having a license stabilizes the industry as a whole. I don't need it as this current system is working(not perfectly) and really have contemplated whether I want it. IF(big IF)we get this license there will be rules that go along with it, after passage of 161 the rules went out the window(unintended consequence I warned of). I worry that IF this license bill goes thru there will be "unintended consequences" that I have not foreseen that will hinder my business and put rules/regulation on it(I struggle with rules/regulation/authority, it's a personality flaw). This is a reason I find to not support the bill.

A reason I can support this bill is my for repeat clients. I have clients who have hunted with me over 20 years, these guys regularly passed up "next year deer" and let them grow up hoping to be able to have a chance the following year at them. Now they can only come every other year(current system)and they are not near as apt to let a "next year buck" go. On account they probably won't be able to come hunt the following year. I realize this is selfish on my part, but I look at it as being better for the resource. You and others may hate this, but this is the view thru my spotting scope.

greenhorn, Were I not in the business I would take a step back and look at the economics. You may not like what it all boils down to. Who is better for Montana's economy the DIY guy who spends $1200-2500, or the guided guy spending $6500 or more? Both are "taking" the same thing from "our Montana", the latter just leave a lot more.
