NM Elk Hunt

@Valley1320 I am enjoying following along. It seems like certain parts of that area is very dense and wooded, and then you have nice meadows. Love the ebb and flow of the countryside as well. Good luck at connecting with one.

Some areas we hunted was really thick and some was almost to open.

So I'm sitting up on the knob socks hanging in the tree drying, boots out in the sun. Got my pack and water spread out sitting relaxing my aching feet. I hear something like sticks breaking... I look around and glass a lil don't see anything so I forget about it...

Couple minutes later I hear it again and look that way. Here comes a couple cow elk I get ready she's at 65 yards and I don't have a good shot so I wait for her to come around the knob she dont come out... then I realized she was going around it the other way. Then I see there's a bull coming out!!!! So quit worrying about shooting the cow. He works his way around the knob and I stop him when he clears a tree. He's at 70 yards. I draw and let my pin settle. And let the arrow fly. The shot felt perfect. But he ran behind trees right away and I couldn't see.

I cow call and get settled down. I'm perty sure I hit him. It felt good. I get my socks and boots on and ease down to where he was. Look around and find my arrow bout 15 yards past where he was standing. This is how it looked.

So I ease up and find his tracks in the soft dirt and this.

At this point I'm kinda torn... do I keep tracking or should I leave it for awhile. I know it's better to be cautious... I decide to ease up and if I didn't get better blood within 50 yards I'd wait a hour. This is what I found 20 or 30 yards later.

So I keep going and this is more of the blood trail.

285 yards later I ease around some trees and boulders and this is what I see.
Dead bull!!!! So pumped first elk ever on the ground.

Congrats! Having never Arrowed an elk I’m surprised it could go that far with a blood trail like that

I was to, so much blood! I've killed a antelope, mule deer and now elk with these magnus stingers with bleeders and got pass thru on all but the deer, reason I didn't with the deer is he was quartering towards me hard and I sent it thru the length of his body perty much
