That's a terrific offer. If you ever set your sights on Colorado or Wyoming which is where I hunt and know much better, I would love to take you up that offer.

And with your offer to provide helpful info, you've just put NZ on the radar for me. My wife has been trying to get me to take her to NZ and AUS for a long time but I've balked at the long trip and it didn't occur to me that I could do a DIY hunt, I was thinking big bucks for outfitters.

How difficult is the terrain for tahr and chamois? What I see in pictures looks very steep.

Yes, it is steep! You’ll need to be comfortable getting around steep hillsides but using a helicopter is a popular and cost effective way to avoid long climbs. DIY is pretty easy - no tags, no seasons etc.
