I bought one. For Xmas. It came in 3 boxes. Like put it all together. Self tapping screws. I put it halfway together. I felt I could rip it open with my hands. I took it to the dump. Very disappointed

So many choices....AMSEC, Liberty, Rhino, Browning,Fort Knox, Cannon, Winchester...pick your poison....USA made or China. Most AMSEC is not made in the US anymore other than the high end stuff. I have been researching for a long time, watch a lot of videos and read stuff and I still have not bought one...lol. I personally look at it this way too, how much do I want to spend, how much value do the things I'm putting into it have. The problem is, I don't want to spend 12-18K on a safe.

I have a Champion safe as do several of my friends and family members. We went to a trade show to compare them in the flesh then made our decision. My first was a 35 gun capacity but it’s only a true 35 if you configure it without any shelving. I sold it later then purchased a 65 gun which is much better suited for my needs. My point is to go larger than you think you need.

I have a champion as well. 15 years old now and I love it. It’s 72 inches tall and I’m not sure of the width and depth. Without opening it and looking I believe the model is T-50. Very well made. I had it delivered and put in place. 1100 pounds empty.15 years ago delivery was like 50 or 75 dollars. Just recently I put two magnetic LED motion lights in it,game changer for old eyes

I got a pella with 3/16" steel body. Might be hard to find around you since they're made in Iowa, but one of the few that builds everything in usa if that matters to you.


My advice to you, many gimmicks exist for gun safes. Various ways to say thickness of the metal, different fire ratings, liners, etc. For the most part the important things for me at least are:

Outer steel thickness. 3/16" is a good middle ground. A fire ax can't break through but 10ga can be chopped through relatively quick

S&G lock which is pretty standard across the board

Fire boards present, it's really gypsum board for most folks

Size you need. Figure any gun count they provide should be cut in half and that's how many guns you can really hold without it being a pain. 30 gun safe will have no shelving and likely hold 15 guns unless you want to take forever always unloading the safe to get the one in the back...



Also, always ask about delivery. Many places only offer curbside drop and then you have to get it in the house. Can be a real pain in the ass when the safe weighs 1000#+

I have had a Cannon for about 12 years and like it very much. It’s smaller than what you are looking for and only 60” high. I agree with the comment that you should expect to fit about half the amount of guns advertised.

25 years ago I heard about a place in Montreal that refurbished old safes. I bought one that was formerly used at a small bank in the far north. New bolts, new combination dial and lock, new paint. It was loaded onto my 3/4 ton pickup… very apparent that I was overloaded ! Made it home. Set down in my basement through the hatchway with a backhoe. Shelved and rack made to hold all the guns my wife and I will ever own.
