I took this pick a couple years ago. I was a bit late getting onto in the woods for a turkey hunt.
I was asked to enter a painting in the NWTF next year and needed a back drop for a couple Toms. So this is just getting underway. Kind of ugly at this stage.

A different "day by day" effort on HuntTalk, and I love these Dave!

Your photo could read either spring or fall, but I imagine you will be doing some strutting randy spring toms showing off for the ladies.

Today's sit. I'm much more pleased with the progress. I can see the finished piece in my mind it's just the path I chose to travel. I've worked out my palette today which make sort of smooth sailing. In the past I would take the Salvador Dali approach and create what looks to be transparent but actually opaque. I'm going with washes and glazes. Much like the Sheep painting for depth of field.
Thanks for the comments. Very much appreciated.

So I posted the sit from the past 2 days. Post #4. What I'm thinking is adding a smoked edge look. Using Burnt umber, dark green and ocher. Something Rembrandt is noted for. The technique draws your eye into the painting sort of like tunnel vision. Then add the turkeys moving through.
If you squint at painting to the point of fading out the edges you'll get an idea what I'm talking about.
I'd like to here you thoughs. Curtique.
Thanks

I say go for it! I think it would make it feel more like recalling a fond memory.

Shading the sides will emphasize the sun glair without painting in the sun rays.
Thanks p_ham I appreciate your feedback.
I used to love standing in front of class and having class curtique.
