New Mexico unit 24 muzzleloader mule deer help

Hey guys I am new to New Mexico and purchased a left over mule deer tag for unit 24. I will be traveling from Albuquerque to hunt, does anyone have any recommendations on where to start I got two weeks off prior to opening day to scout, but I've never been to that area due to being new to New Mexico, thanks in advance. It is a muzzleloader tag for the end of October and beginning of November. I am from PA and used to hunting whitetails from a tree, again thanks for any help.

Plenty of deer in 24,one of the few NM units that do these days. A few big ones.
Talk to someone at the Mimbres FS office for access & all. Got good intel from a guy that was doing prescribed burns down there couple years ago.
Lots of oaks & PJ's. A bit dryer and steeper than PA tho.LOL
Coues deer in there too,their the little gray ones and not on your menu if you see a familiar white tail flash...........

Will do, thank you for the advise. I was told to check out royal john mine road, and sheep canyon, but I will contact the forest guys on my next day off. It's a huge learning curve in regards to hunting out west lol compared to our farm in PA.
