Hey guys i am new here on the forum. Thought I waouls say hi. I am from Alberta Candada. I am a full time firefighter and guide for waterfowl for a couple months as well. My favoriter hunting is Sheep hunting. I have 8 on the wall now and feel lucky to be able to hunt them so often here.
I just went on an antelope hunt last year and I sure enjoy it as well and wish I could do it more often. I have been doing a little research and would like to see if I can hunt in north part of Montana for my next antelope hunt. We only get a tag here every 6 or 7 years or more so I don't get to go as often as I would like.
I have a lot of homework to do to figure out the U.S system and how things work.
I hope i can get a chance to meet a few of you.
Thanks

8 Sheep - Eegads, that would be about 30 hunting careers down here below the 49th parallel.

Welcome to the site. With the hunting you have in Alberta, and advice you might be able to share, I am sure you will have no problems finding guys to give you info on antelope here in the states.

here you go

Looks like one 1/2 slam and six more 1/4 slams:D

You have to become a full citizen correct?

I remember talking to a guy on a airstrip in AK telling me he had shot 12 dalls. Just like shooting elk here in Colorado I guess.

Well it isn't easy to kill a sheep here. I would bet I am the only 34 year old to have as many as I do here. If you kill one you can't get a licence the next year so really I have 14 years worth of bighorns. I got the dall in the NWT. Back when I was young we couldn't start to big game hunt till we turned 14. So if my math is right i have 14 years worth of rams for 20 years of hunting them. The success rate is around %5 as well and only about 125 rams get shot a year. I feel real blessed to have done so good. It is hard to find legal sheep here. $50 and over the counter tag and you are good to go. Just needs to be 4/5 curl in most of the zones. Roghly 2500 tags a year sold and like I said 125 or so killed.

I wish we had a bit more management and more trophy zones with draws but i am also glad I can sheep hunt if I feel like just buying a tag.

Glad you guys liked the pictures. I have tons of them. Here are some more.

Dude!!! I used to want to be Greenhorn or Breaks Runner in my next life life, now I want to be you!!!! Impressive pics man!

Hell with the sheep, I'm Jonesin' to come up antelope huntin' and maybe take one of those heavy beamed whitetails off your hands while I am at it.

Those pronghorns have some major mass above the prongs. Can non-resident aliens hunt antelope without a guide?

Will gladly scrub a few coyotes off the prairies if that would endear me to some resident hunters.

Another fighter with way to much time on his hands.;)

What is your workweek? Another bad career choice on my part for is my guess.

I work 2 10hr day shifts and then 2 14 hr nights and get 2 days off. Then the same 4 shifts and six days off. It averages out to 42 hours a week. I love it. Gives me time to do what I want and pays the bills.
I take September and half of October to do the waterfowl guiding for U.S clients. Other than that I get my fair share of hunting in.

BigFIN, Thanks on the antelope. When you only have a week long season and it takes 6-7 years to get a tag you might as well shoot for a big one right. I have been lucky. Don't have a booner yet but been very, very close a couple times.
I want to hunt them more and hope to figure out where to go fairly close to home for a hunt sometime in a few years or save up and go to New Mexico or wherever the big ones are. i want a big 85" + antelope some day. Don't know if going to Montana would do it. Probably not the place to go but it is a short drive for me and financially doable. I think it just would be a fun hunt.
I would love to get a big 350+ bull elk as they are hard to get here as well. I have 9 years waiting for my draw in an area that holds them but it is still going to be a lot of luck if i get a 350+ bull
i am pretty sure you have to get an outfitter for Antelope but I can take a non resident every 3 years for whitetail. Lat guy I took shot a nice one. Got a 156" deer and missed a big one and wounded another as well we couldn't find in a 10 day hunt.
A lot of the animals are on draw and it is a big process to get tags here for that if you are a non resident and for some you have to go with an outfitter.

Glad you like the pics. I got a bunch more as well. May as well keep them for another day. For you sheep hunters I have a pile of picks of 180+ and 200 class rams as well i should post up as well when you guys get bored some day.

It appears as though we should have a discussion. I think I can help you with the pronghorn ideas. :D

Wow....
That pic of the skull capped whitey in your yard is an absolute jaw-dropper.

Alright - someone is snappin pictures in the Universal Whitetail / sheep museum!!! Haha!
:D

Wow! Beautiful animals you have there - I can only dare imagine the great memories they hold!

Welcome to the site! Look forward to you chalking up an American pronghorn along with reading a great story to boot!
