New GEN2 VX6-HD

Neat ideas…but damn.

21 oz for a 2-12x42. If you’re hunting from a blind that might be acceptable but damn, that’s a very heavy chunk of scope. The 3-18 is heavier still.

Yes that puts the weight right in line with other manufacturers. Nxs 2.5-10x42 is 21oz, 4-16x42 is 30oz, trijicon 2.5-15 x42 credo is 23oz.
Maybe that means they beefed it up to compete with the competition

LOL. They’re all due for a diet.

Hate to buzzkill a beautiful product. I own a Gen1 3-18x44. I bought two from @schmalts last year.

The leveling systems makes this illegal for hunting in Idaho.
I would wait for the findings of IDFG's HAT ( Hunting and Advanced Technology) advisory group if you are thinking of getting one for an Idaho hunt.

The VX-5HD is still legal here.

Can’t you just pop the battery out? Doesn’t matter to me in particular, I don’t want electronics in my scope either way

That’s what an IDFG officer told me too (I have the Gen 1). However, it’s subject to each wardens opinion about it.

Eat one less cheeseburger.
It's a couple of oz.
Kahles 328i is 36oz
S&B hunter 3-12x42 is 22oz
Leupold mk5hd 3.6-18x44 26oz
The scopes known for repeatability and return to zero seem to sell like hot cakes. Lots of guys who want durability and repeatability.
I think leupold might be going after that market. Maybe the new 6hd have thicker bodies, heavier erectors and they are gluing in the lenses? Something like a lightweight trim mk5?
That's a good thing leupold already has lightweight scope models Now they have a medium one.

Quality glass is heavy. There’s just no way around it. If you need quality and lightweight then you’re stuck with only a few low magnification options, like a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42mm.

However I do have this Tasco scope that is only 10.5 ounces for sale. No lowball offers. I know what I’ve got!

Full disclosure I'll be mounting an nx8 that might weight a half a steak on my rifle today knowing that the 6hd likely has better glass. I know my vx5hd does.

This. It is what it is.

I was offering a PSA, not wanting to hijack this thread. I hope schmalts sells a crap ton of them
