New arrows

I need to distract this hunting forum away from bickering about communist/socialists so we don't completely lose credibility....So I'm considering upping my FOC that may require a stiffer arrow from what I've been using. I've been shooting the Cabelas Stalker Extreme (aka Easton aka Beaman). I'm down to 6 "shooter" arrows anyway so it's time for a new dozen. Not sure exactly what I'll be shooting for final insert weight or broadhead weight (may stick with my 125s) until I have a chance to do some searching and testing

Anyone have a favorite arrow? Any idea of your ideal FOC?

I'm in a similar situation, as I'm in the market for a dozen or two. The catch is that I'm not very advanced, so looking for something on the more inexpensive end that will still perform ok.

I know a guy that had a carbon arrow splinter. I know it doesn't happen very often, but hearing him tell the story, and seeing the scars sold me 100% on FMJ shafts after that. I figured it was worth the extra money for the peace of mind.

Weird I have seen the same with FMJ and my archery shop won’t sell them to people

I shot Victory RIP last year at 18% FOC 510gr really liked that setup, but the trajectory meant yardage had to be dead on past 50yd. 125gr point with 105gr insert/collar.
I'm trying Victory VAP this year at 16% FOC 475gr. 150gr point (was planning on shooting 125s at 450gr but the 475 shoots better.) 45gr insert/collar. So far they are shooting very well. It seems like they are shooting quite a bit flatter but still hit hard.

I am in the same boat with the same arrow. Only 5 left. Curious what everyone is using.

I’m down to about 4 of the arrows I have used for years. I’ve been going crazy trying to decide what to go to next. Right now I’m leaning very heavily towards Easton axis 300’s with 50 grain brass inserts

My current setup for elk is 511gr (25gr nock, 286gr fletched shaft, 100gr weighted insert, 100gr broadhead) with 16% FOC.
For whitetails I will drop to a 25gr insert and be at 436gr with an 11% FOC. As quick as they jump, I want to keep the speed up.

Nothing wrong with shooting cheap arrows. I like the weight you're shooting on that 16% FOC. I'd probably bump up to the 125 broadhead for my wants but thanks for the input.

I've been shooting the Easton 4mm FMJ Deep Six Injexion 280's since they came out and they have performed very well for me. Tough arrow that hits really hard. By far the best arrow performance in windy conditions that I have experienced.

I am a novice myself when it comes to archery. I shot my first antelope last year with a compound bow, only animal I killed with a bow so far other than a whitetail doe I shot a few years ago. When it comes to technical knowledge about a bow, I am lost. I go to a shop in town and ask them a ton of questions and had they set my bow for me. If you go to an archery shop, most reputable ones will give sound advice and even let you try one in their indoor range if they have one.

Yeah, when starting that thread I didn't guess on the direction it would head, just thought that was an interesting tidbit of news.

I've been using 5mm Axis 340s for 8-9 years now and am very pleased with them. It's funny though, I was re-fletching some the other day and I noticed still have many of the first couple dozen I bought, the second batch (with the white wraps) seemed more fragile and I only have one or two of those left, and the newest dozen or so I have seem like they're a good bunch.

Its hard to beat an Easton Axis with a 50/75 grain brass insert. On the medium to heavy side of arrow weights, HIT inserts that are bombproof, and generally tough shafts.

If I hated my wallet I would get the new HIT insert/collar system from Ironwill as well

FMJ and no plan to change anything. Only gripe is they become bent eventually so need to continually check them for straightness like any aluminum arrow. I like the ease of fletching, the extra mass, minimal wind drift, and how they zip through game for effective pass thrus.

Easton carbon injexions is what I like the extra penetration is noticeable on 3D targets. They are expensive though.
