Hey folks,
I drew a cow wilderness only for 162. Scouted it a bit already, usually I hunt archery cow tags but this is a new unit for me.

Anyone know the roads well that would let me pick their brain? I've scouted the west side some but want to hit up the east side. I'll likely be bringing my 3 year old so if I could get some better info on road conditions that would make the first day trip up there way easier with my little hunting partner.

Thanks in advance

I went hunting for mule deer in Charnac basin area about 3 years ago. The roads weren’t bad till you take some two tracks off the main road. But I didn’t see any elk at the time. I have a cow elk tag for the same area as well.

The best access that I've found to the east side is Dobbin. But, in early October, I don't think vehicle access will really matter much, they'll mostly be way up and out in the wilderness.

Thanks, I'm definitely a hiker, mainly though trying to scope out the trailheads with the kiddo.

Good thing you're a hiker. I shot a cow elk in the wilderness area of unit 231 a couple of years ago. They were nowhere near any road. We had approximately a 3 mile pack out through some very nasty growth.
Good luck on your hunt and have fun with your kid assistant. (y)
