Filled my antelope tag on day one. I was planning on dragging it out so I could enjoy it, but helping my dad chase deer in the high country was way too tempting. I was planning on leaving in the morning but after not being able to sleep, i started the 4 hour drive at 1am. Got to a glassing point and watched a buck. My dad was going to meet me in town at noon so I wasn’t going to shoot anything before that. I drove a few two track roads then took a back road on my way back to town to meet my dad. On the way a really nice buck went across the road. I stopped to watch him and another bigger buck came running towards the buck I saw in the road. I guess he had crossed a boundary and the big buck didn’t like it. I rush back to town to get my dad. After getting everything unpacked and in the hotel room, we headed out to relocate the bucks. We found the buck I saw cross the road first. He was all alone on his side of the road. All his does we’re gone. We then noticed a band of does in a wash. We knew the bigger buck had to be there. We snuck around and couldn’t find them. Then I looked up the hill and saw a lone cedar tree with 8 heads sticking up. We snuck around the back side and found ourselves 200 yards from them. The only issue is the top of the bucks head was covered. Over the next two hours the buck would check his does but never reveal his head gear. Finally he stepped out and it didn’t take long to decide I was going to take him. One shot and it was over
After a fun 3 days in the high country with my dad, I was heading home. My dads deer tag was the same as my antelope. Of course, while driving down the road, a giant antelope chasing a doe ran across the road and stopped a 100 yards away. He let me get out, and look at it for 5 min until I drove away. Haha seems to always work that way. But it doesn’t matter. I still had a 78-3/16” buck and all his meat in the back of the truck.
