NCAA wrestling - # 2 Iowa at #1 Penn State

The stalling call needs to be changed. How can a guy get called for stalling if he kicks out of a leg hold with no where to go but out of bounds? I’ve seen it called several times this weekend.

They also need to make it a rule that if you can score a takedown with one toe still in bounds the outside of the mat needs to be big enough the wrestler doing the takedown can finish the shot without the wrestler getting taken down going onto the gym floor.

184 and 197 are surprising. No respect for the big ten at 197, but I bet between Dean, Alred, or Warner they have a finalist.

Whoever put Brooks at 3 should probably recluse themselves from any future seeding meetings.

The top side of the heavy weight with Parris, Schultz, and Cassiopi is pretty loaded.

The big ten really got screwed at a lot of weights this year. When the best 4 wrestlers potentially in the nation are in the big ten and they wrestle 4-5 times throughout the year someone ends up with a few losses. Then a guy from a different conference with a cupcake schedule only sees possible 1 all American throughout the year and goes undefeated gets a higher seed because he has less losses. The big ten guy than has to face higher seeds at every round of the tournament and has a higher probability of being being because it’s so hard to be on your best A game for 5 or 6 grueling matches in a row.

Yes and no. You gottta beat them all anyway.

It would be interesting to go thru the record books and see how many big ten champs, then went on to be national champs 2 weeks later. Since they have been using the latest current selection criteria for all conferences placers into the NCAA tourney.

example: take all the 2022 big 10 champs and see how many won NCAA titles last year. then do that back to when current selection process started. I would bet its close to 70 %.
